Introcduction
Greetings everyone. Today I'll be doing a trip report on a transatlantic flight on Delta Air Lines I took back in 2017 from Salt Lake City to Paris. This trip was special to me as it was my first flight ever on 1) a wide body aircraft and 2) and long haul flight. This was a last minute trip with family so I didn't have time to get everything together and also didn't have the best camera at the moment to document the trip but I managed to do with what I had ;). Back then Salt Lake City international airport was a lot smaller compared to today and only had this transatlantic flight operating on a B767 daily (correct me if I'm wrong). As of 2023 Delta has since grown in SLC by later adding daily nonstop London (LHR) and Amsterdam (AMS) along with KLM flights to their network. There have been rumors about Delta adding transpacific flights to Tokyo & Seoul out of its Salt Lake City hub in the coming years. Not to mention that the aircraft Delta now uses between SLC and Paris route has since been upgraded to a larger Airbus A330-900.
On the day of flight everything went smoothly, and back then when SLC was a small airport we went from check-in to security in a matter of minutes. We then waited at the relatively small gate area at concourse D and boarding commenced as usual.
Back then were the glory days when Delta didn't have Basic Economy fares and I remembered we paid the lowest fare and it still included seat selection, mileage accrual & even a checked bag! I also remember for a fact that both gates in Salt Lake City and in Paris did not provide any views of my B767 so apologies in advance for not providing a picture of my aircraft.
Some information about my plane:
Flight number: DL 106
Aircraft: Boeing 767-300ER
Registration: N/A
The flight
Here's a view of the cabin after settling in at my seat 34A

Legroom was good and I believe this seat offered 31" pitch

Boarding was complete and pushed back on time. Today's flight to Paris will be leaving 100% full.

We'll be taking off runway 34R

Inflight service
After reaching cruising altitude some 30 minutes after takeoff the flight attendants sprung into the aisle and began a drink/snack service before the main meal. This is something Delta used to do on International flights and now in days they just do drink service before main meal.

While waiting for the meal, decided to explore the IFE system and I couldn't stop playing around with the inflight map ?.

15 minutes later the meal arrived. I believe the two options were 4 cheese ravioli or chicken, I chose the first. Looking back, Delta used to offer a lot more in a meal compared now. Here they offered the main, a side salad, hummus with carrots & celeries, warm roll and crackers with cheese. On top of that they came by later to offer Haagen Daz vanilla ice cream (not pictured). Compared to an international flight six years later, a recent trip I took from JFK to Barcelona they only offered the main, a side salad and ice cream all in one small tray. You don't even get a bread roll either unlike AA or UA. You can't tell me that this isn't cost cutting ?.

After the meal tray was cleared I decided to enjoy another form of entertainment and watch the sunset :)

Half way through the flight in addition I do remember the FAs passed through the cabin and offered mid-flight snack bags that consisted of a small tuna sandwich and a tiny water bottle. I happened to be awake at this time and the FA's came through in the dark and only people who were awake got the goodie bag ?. I'm assuming they also probably had them in the galley for anyone wanting one later on. Now in days on DL International flights they have something called 'Anytime Snack' in between services whereas a snack basket and drinks are kept in the galleys for you to help yourself.
After sleeping for a solid 3 hours, I woke up to the sun rising again.

Woke up less then 2 hours before arrival.

Seat back contents.

Pre-arrival service
The Breakfast service was offered 1.5hr before arrival and consisted of a box that contained a bagel, cream cheese, yogurt & cheese with crackers. In addition to a choice of drink was offered, I opted for a coffee. This was actually more of an offering as well compared to what Delta offers now in days in my opinion. The standard current pre-arrival breakfast option on many if not all Delta international flights is simply an egg & cheese sandwich (correct me if I'm wrong).

Flying over England

Not long after we began our initial descent into Paris.

We'll be landing on runway 8R.

Another DL B767-300 taking off, I believe this one was heading to Boston (BOS)

arrival
We arrived at our gate only 15 minutes behind schedule parked next to this AIRFRANCE A330-200

This concludes my first long haul flight from Salt Lake City to Paris, thanks for reading :)
