Review of Finnair flight from Manchester to Helsinki in Economy

I booked this trip to tokyo via the japan airlines website and it was my intention to go on the 787 from helsinki to narita airport. Manchester-Helsinki worked out at being £20 cheaper than a BA flight from london heathrow airport, the difference in flight being that you don't get food on the flybe nordic/finnair embraer e190, you do however get a small hot drink.
I noticed that booking a flight individually to helsinki was around £180. As i booked it under a BA code i guess the E-ticket number is only going to work on the JAL website as i tried it on the finnair website and it didnt work. nearer the time i tried booking the seats again and used the flight ticket number instead and i was able to book a seat on the embraer, JAL seat i booked straight away.
Alarm clock set for 6:30am for a 10:15am flight. I got my travel money pre-orded for a pickup from manchester airport terminal 1 airside.

Once arrived at the airport at 8:15 there was no queue at all and i went straight through departures and i would have been through that in 2 minutes flat but they had to check my electronics and wires filling my bag…Next was travelex and i was away from there within 5 minutes. Lufthansa was on strike on the 2nd of december so thats one reason on why it was so quiet.

I did a bit of filming in the airport but it was quite noisy around the shops so i went to one of the gates for peace and quiet.

Boarding was on time and i got asked with a sort of hey from behind by the cabin crew to not film the cabin so i didnt, they warmed up later and said that's cool while it was on a tripod. So the cabn crew came down the aisle with a food trolley and also the tea and coffee trolley, I chose the tea with 4 milks, it was a small cup so didnt need much milk and was able to make it as white as the clouds oh and the weather was smooth all the way into helsinki airport landing on 22R we also took off on that one so i wonder why they dont use 22l a lot maybe just a fluke. we arrived about 2.5 hours later and parked opposite the japan airlines 787 which was nice to see. I didnt want to ask for a video of the cockpit for obvious reasons. We got off the plane by the stairs and got into the terminal near passport control and walked past all the passengers off the japan airlines flight.
There was a bit of building renovation going on but i made my way the gate and had a bit of an explore around which didnt take a lot of time so i just decided to go on the laptop. There was a starbucks at one end and a little food court at the other and a little bit of art around the airport and a christmas tree upside down hanging from the ceiling, they had a few other christmas decorations as well.
The gate area started to fill up around 1 hour before the flight and the gate counter had two friendly japanese airline girls ready to help with anything a long with two finish agents. You get 3 hours of wifi access which i think is a lot better than the time you get at manchester airport but then again i wouldn't spend much time at the first one anyway. You didnt need to register to use it which was good.
