I usually write on the French version of this website. Today I'm trying to write my first Flight-Report on the English version! ;-)
June, 12th 2019… Today, we will be taking-off from Paris CDG to New York, on board the now retired Air France Airbus A380.
Enchainement de vols
- 1CDG - JFK / Economy / Air France / Airbus A380-800
- 2JFK - ORY / Economy / Air France / Boeing 777-200
At the airport !
I go to the airport by car. About 1h30 drive from my home.
I arrive at terminal 2E at noon for a take-off at 3 p.m.
Initially, my flight who's scheduled at 2 P.M. Due to the late arrival of our plane, the departure is delayed at 3 P.M.
Let's print our boarding pass and luggage tag !
We are ready to fly !
See you at JFK
Now, we go to the border control.
The automated border control is open, only 10 minutes to do this stage.
We take the train to the gates M
The Boeing 777-300er F-GZNA is came back from Singapore this morning.
Security check, only ten minutes, great ! ;-)
Let's go through the duty free
My jumbo is waiting me at gate M48
An Airbus A330 with the old AF livrery. Daily Air France flight to Chicago.
F-HPJD, AF054 to Washington IAD.
So cuteeeeeee ! <3
My Flight is delayed again and again… Now our expected time of departure is about 3.15 P.M.
I decided to sit on this seat with a power outlet to recharge my phone battery
The flight-report
Now it's time for board on my second A380 flight. 500 passagers, the flight is full !
My bird today is the first A380 delivered to Air France in 2009. F-HPJA
Into the jetbridge
Two BIG engines
Very friendly welcome from the crew. I discover this outdated cabin, I'm sitting at 24B today
On the seat, we can found : A pillow, a blanket, an headphone and an eye-mask
The screen is small but works great. A camera is placed on the tail.
The captain introduces himself and announces a flight time of 7 hours and 10 minutes to go to the big apple !
During the push-back, the safety instructions are presented on the screen
AF006 SUPER………….Cleared for take-off, runway 08L
25 minutes after take-off, the aperitif is served
Then the meal is served after we have passed above Ireland
Turnip and carrot duo salad
Chicken in a jus, chopped vegetables
Camembert
Lemon cake
It wasn't really good.
Tasteless vegetables and chicken… Only the cake was good.
The safety card, now in my collection ! ;-)
Somewhere over the Atlantic ocean. A bar is present at the galley. A lot of drinks, but nothing to eat ! :-(
The economy cabin is full
One hour before landing, a second meal service is coming with a cake, a yogurt, a little eggplant sandwich and an orange juice glass.
!!! Bon appétit !!!

Welcome at JFK INTL Airport
Kiss landing, welcome in New York after 7 hours and 7 minutes of flying! My first time at the United States !
We are now at the gate, we can disembark
A last view on our A380, I had no idea at the time that it would be my only flight on the Air France A380… To sad ! :-(
The border check will take us only 5 minutes, immediately after, we can already collect our luggage on the baggage claim.
I take the Airtrain to go to Jamaïca and get the LIRR to Penn Station !

Hey Ben, thanks for publishing this great report. Such a shame this plane had to go. The cabin was old but very comfortable and the tail camera was a great feature.
A shame the food experience was not that great. You should have ordered one of the special meals available on order.
Your only flight with the AF A380 but there are still some of these big birds flying around. Let's hope this crisis does not kill the beast forever! Overall, a nice flight with a fast arrival at JFK, you were lucky!

I am rarely disappointed by Air France's catering offer, but it really bad on this flight...
The arrival in New York was very fast, it seems rare

Thanks a lot for taking the time to post this report in English! My very first Flight-Report 10 years ago was on an AF A380 from IAD...Ah, the memories over the years. So sad to see her go, but I'm glad I got to fly on her dozens of times in every cabin (except P).
That's the perfect description. Such wasted potential, but then again AF never seemed to make the A380 work in the network so it was a PaxEx afterthought almost from the beginning with such a underwhelming and old school business class. I will say that the Upper desk Y cabin was probably the most comfortable Y cabin there was...especially in the window seats with only 2 seats on the sides, super wide seats (especially compared to torturous 777s) and the storage bins on the sides!

I was quite disappointed with the cabin, I did not find it very comfortable even though the size of the plane gives an impression of large size.
