Today I found some of my very old pictures of 2016, a period when I was travelling loads but unfortunately a time when I took less pictures.
The idea of this trip was to follow my partner at the time- as he was working from "home". Yes I know, before covid and back then it was the only person I knew that had such freedom.
Flying blue miles earned with this flight: 1014 XP earned: 12 (In nowadays conversion of Mile-revenue based scheme)
You can see below that even though some of the flights of the routing are missing, the price is very decent for A) the lenght B) the fact that it is an open jaw.
I don't recall that there was an App at the time, or perhaps I just didn't install it; but I did check in online and received the QR code by email.
There was no map of the A330 on the Air Europa website but the A332 has 293 seats, where for instance Air France has 216..
at madrid - barajas - adolfo suarez airport
I took even less pictures on the previous flightm and since it was at night the vast majority of them were blurry.
I arrived at T2 and my next flight was at T1 so not too much of a walk - I spent most of my time there as the food was ok, with free wifi and available plugs to charge my devices (and indeed with reasons as I was about to discover later on the plane that there weren't any plugs).
Our plane arrived with about 1 hour late, here it is…
Aircraft: Airbus A330-243 Registration: EC-LNH Engines: 2x RR trent 772 Age: 19 Years Layout: J18 Y275 seats Observation: With the skyteam livery
Back up in the shopping court
Boarding happened in the usual way: business and Suma/Flying blue elite members first, at the time I was just an anonymous Ivory status card holder.

The A330 isn't a bad plane for a long haul flight, but in economy the cabin could be a bit tighter than the wider B777 jets. However the good thing about thing about a norrower jet is that the cabin is configured with just a 2-4-2 lay out.
I arrived at my seat to realise that: A) There was no windows B) The IFE wasn't working
I tried to ask for the staff to reboot it but nothing happened; I patiently waited for the take off (hence no pictures) and went to ask to change seat, before the diner was served so I had more chances to be moved.
I was first offered a left seat of the middle section of the rear economy cabin.
I managed to change seat with somoeone on my left, as I had no passengers on my right - I really wanted the window seat and a functional IFE!
Speaking of which, here is the IFE i was fighting for…
Of course not the best of IFEs, I'd even say it is disappointing but better than no IFE. The IFE doesn't have a touchscreen feature.
You need to use this cutting edge remote control!
And In case you never touched a remote control in your life, here is the manual!
The safety card used for both variants of the A330
The meal was served about 2 hours in the flight, not sure why we waited that long for it. The bolognese thing was actually good and filling, I have a sweet touch and the dessert was just awful.
Air Europa also gives a blanket that I used to sleep and to - now I can confess it noone can report me - use my e-cigarette to vipe underneath it!
I am not sure if it is due to the e-cigarette, I felt relaxed and managed to sleep; I usually find it very hard to sleep on economy class seats.
The breakfast was offered before landing: orange juice; coffee and this sandwich.
The flight magazine of Air Europa…
With some nice tips about some destinations, Miami might be a good thing for me ;-)
This kind of advertisement usually makes you realise you are onboard a low-cost airline… I found funny how 7cm in your shoes can be a chick magnet ahah!
I like the map of Terminals 1-2-3 of MAD, very useful.
And finally the avgeek page. As you can see, Air Europa was about to receive its first Dreamliner and therefore no data about the cabin configuration was available yet.
A last picture of the cabin after landing…
at sao paulo - Guarulhos - international airport
We arrived at the terminal 2 that is usually used by Latam.
And through customs to get my stamp, the good thing is that I didn't have to collect my luggage.
I still went outside to breath a bit natural air.
No offence to Brazil but I must say it has to be the most boring stamp in the the world!
GRU isn't the best looking airport at all.

Conclusion
A good value for money trip, 800€ is a really fair amount to pay for this open Jaw and for summer.
MAD: The airport is OK, T1, T2 are not the best, it is a bit like day and night comparing it with the T4. However it is clean and has a decent amount of services.
Air Europa: The A332 was nice, the cabin in 2-4-2 might be seen as much, however I still find it more confortable thant 3-4-3 on 777. The food was really average. The IFE not working and a seat without a window is a NO but the crew was nice enough to allow me to change seat.
GRU: The airport is well organised, it is quite easy to get your bearings but lacks a bit of aesthetics.
For memory here are my criteria -Entertainment: None < 4.5 Magazine 6< une application 7< Wifi 8 < IFE = 10 -Cabin: visually interesting, comfortable and practicle> 7.5. For example, Ironing boards are <7 -Crew: Went for the extra mile, they outdone themselves > 7.5 -Repas: : Buy On Board <5 Free <7.5< Visually interesting, nice in quantity and quality

Thank you for this vintage report. At least UX intercontinental product hasn't evolved much and is still bare bones. I agree with you that GRU looks ugly from the outside. LYSflyer
Thanks! It is crazy it was just 5 years ago and it is vintage because of covid... Like you said the service offered on UX was already below average so not that vintage I guess :p
Another pretty complete retro-report for having "not taken many pictures" haha.
Looks like another epic itinerary. I used to love those kinds of trips! Of course, now no longer an option with a kid.
Wow, thank goodness UX retired the A330s recently, they were ALREADY looking tired and sad 5 years ago! Their new 787 experience is surely much nicer (though smaller seats).
Hi mate! thanks for your comment very kind! Yes not easy with a kid and with covid!! I like flying on the A330 but not on theirs lol yes the 787 is way better ( i reported it in french) but smaller indeed!
