Hello everyone and welcome aboard one of my two shuttles departing from the 101st French department.
As you will see in the second opus, my itinerary will be a little different from my habits well known to my faithful readers.
Enchainement de vols
- 1KQ255 - Business - Dzaoudzi –> Nairobi - Embraer E190
The cruise is fun
Who wants to fly from Mayotte must first sail.
I hook the 10am barge, the previous one having passed under my nose for 20 seconds and the ill will of the crew.

I am sailing aboard the Karahani registered in Dzaoudzi. Direction Petite Terre.

We pass the barge that gave me the finger 45 minutes earlier.

Petite Terre is in sight.

Back to Marcel Henry airport.
After 5 kilometers of driving, here I am in sight by DZA.

It seems pretty quiet today. The lack of crowds may suggest that the flight is not canceled.

Today's schedule.

People are waiting in line while an agent is free (admittedly he is playing dead…)

My suitcase is relatively light. However, it contains some winter clothes.

General atmosphere at DZA

A commenter on my previous FR noted that services were scarce at DZA. To which I replied that a call for tenders was underway. Here is the proof.

I continued, however, doubting the profitability of such businesses given local habits and the low average traffic of the site. Here is the proof.

Not a soul on the tarmac.

I head upstairs for the PAF/PIF procedures.
Two M'zungus are officiating in their booth, more busy chatting than working. In their defense, there is no crowd.
The PIF went through without a hitch.

The V.I.P. lounge
Work is still in progress - I don't know what it is for - and we are now deprived of toilets. The seats are worn and the TV is exercising its right of withdrawal.

General view. Note that the buffet supporting most of the offer has a worrying curvature. The door no longer closes.

Today's offer is revealed in the gallery below.

Our plane arrived with a slight delay, without much impact on boarding.

Boarding time has come
Tribute to Bézu.

No waves for now
Flight sharing with KLM but not with AF (at least on the screen).

A lot of Karanas on this flight and a few families who are well ahead of the school holidays.

The nose of our inner tube sorry, I'm going out.

For the purists: in order: Instant PS

Fuselage

Last but not least: Instant Porte, the handle proudly raised.

The well-known cabin in 1-2. The covers are positioned where a passenger is assigned.

My seat, 2A. On the way there, you always have to be on the left if you want to hope to see Kilimanjaro.

The IFE works but no headphones are distributed.

The welcome drink is distributed. You have to insist on having champagne that is not spontaneously offered. The crew will give the impression of serving with bad grace.

The in-flight magazine that I always appreciate. A nod to the one who looked France in the eye?

We push back about on time and then wait quite a long time at this point before joining the 16 still orphaned by the 64.

The E135s from Amélia that deserted RDZ and BVE must be in Reunion.

Petite Terre seen from the Sky.
We easily tear ourselves away from the Mahorais track.

Rapid left turn. On the right, the Moya craters, the summit of La Vigie. In the background, the Dzaoudzi rock where the barges dock and in the distance Grande Terre.

Close-up of Petite Terre in Dzaoudzi.

Your text…The airport we just took off from.

General view of Petite Terre.

Very quickly we cross the clouds so much so that I will not be able to say hello to a very dear person who stayed at home.
At the table!
The almost unchanging menu is distributed.

As for strong and soft alcohols, the status quo prevails.

Same for the wines. I still find this champagne very good - when it is very cold like today - and the Pinotage is a safe bet.

As for the meal, the shoulder is beef, not lamb, and we find chicken and vegetarian

The practical work.
The platter and the wines, the service of which quite annoyed the PNCette. Regulars of large premium companies will judge the whole thing to be of poor quality, but in my opinion it remains correct… as long as KQ remains reasonable in its pricing.

Braised shoulder is a kind of Bourguignon whose sauce has evaporated.

The light meal is interrupted by the flight over Grande Comore where it is proclaimed that Mayotte is Comorian and will remain so.

The Karthala emerges from the clouds.

Melting chocolate brownie.

The PN Cette is in a hurry to collect the copies.
This turns dessert into a P for Première moment.

Coffee to finish.

The cruise continues with a short nap and a bit of reading.
Descent to Nairobi.
Today Kili will not show itself. The altitude is modest and the arrival is close when the ground reappears.

Your text…The arid countryside around NBO.

Turning to the right allows to limit the backlight.

Nairobi National Park and Nairobi Downtown.

Here we are in the final.

Spotting Nairobian
Touching and braking. A multi-company cemetery?

Airbus Liberté in the foreground.

Other local liveries captured from afar.

Nearby, it's much more classic. A colleague E190.

The tower, be careful!

Dash Jambojet.

The stepladder is towed: the proposal makes perfect sense.
We are parked where we used to disembark on foot and join the inclined plane located in the background, before the extension of NBO in the early 2010s.

Today it will be paxbus. Two wheelchairs are waiting for their bouéni.

Unusual route at NBO
For once, I'm not heading to transfers but to arrivals.

At around 3pm, it's deserted.
The PAF passage will be quite long, the agent being absorbed in her phone conversation.

I don't have to collect any luggage, my suitcase is checked through to my final destination.

We note a space reserved for SPs.

You then have to pass your suitcase through the customs scan.
I can't imagine the mess when tourists arrive en masse. Here I am in front of the terminal where I will return tomorrow morning.

Thanks for reading and see you soon!
Good to see the internet is working again in Mayotte! At least where you are. Crazy to see Mayotte before the apocalypse considering the images we are seeing now post-cyclone!
By North American standards, KQ's short-haul service looks quite decent, for a multi-course hot meal on a 2h flight. It's also commendable that KQ have in-Seat IFE on a regional jet, even if it is a bit dated and also odd that they didn't provided proper headphones. I only have airpods anymore so they would be completely useless on this flight. It is commendable that KQ print French language menus on such a short flight, heck any printed menu on short-haul is nice compared to North American premium cabins, or even more European short-haul J flights. PS, PNC/PIF/PAF are purely French acronyms, so readers who dont speak French won't understand 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for reading.
This report was translated by the Team so that the Gold status may be kept.
No internet and no many progress in Mayotte so far.
We boarded a rescue government flight 2 days ago. Now we have a rest in la Réunion for a short while.
KQ offer is decent anyway, even if the cabin is not state of the art anymore.
Enjoy your holidays in France !
Oh good! Glad to hear it. Enjoy the break in La Reunion! Wishing a speedy recovery for Mayotte (maybe finally things will move along faster since the PM decided to finally break away from the affairs of Pau and go and have a look at Mayotte for himself...We can only hope!)
