Another new airline for me in 2017!
Jet2 announced at the end of 2016 they were to come "Down South" and open bases in Birmingham & London Stansted having spent the last 15 years of their existence specialising in being "The North's Airline" focusing on budget/leisure routes from places like Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds Bradford…
Anyway, Malaga from London Stansted for only £24… I was in it to win it!!!
The day came that I would be flying on Jet2 for the first time, I paid extra for Seat 5A and spending another £8 on reserving an in flight meal- saving me the hassle of the BoB on the day!
London Stansted was the usual this & that, Nothing out the normal to report on. Except some nice spotting from the far side gates!
The abundance of Ryanair planes made it clear I was at Stansted over any other London airport!!!
I found out I was on a fairly brand new Boeing 737-800 (G-JZHY), one of Jet2's factory fresh planes!
To top it off, I got a Red & Silver one instead of the other Blue/White livery that was hanging around!
The flight boarded quite quickly and we left on time, heading for Spain!
The interior was really nice and the red mood lighting was a nice change from the usual blue and purple I have previously seen.
I had chosen the "Tikka Masala" for my inflight meal. I mean, why not- I don't get to eat my favourite curry at 30,000ft every day!
A bit of a shopping spree was done later in the flight after I found the flight was in possession of all 4 model planes Jet2 sell (silver B737-300, holidays B737-800 and both liveries on Boeing 757-200)
We arrived slightly ahead of time in Malaga with the flight being uneventful in its decent & landing.
As per the usual, I had to christen my first time on Jet2 with a flight deck photo!
I couldn't resist the temptation of a ramp shot displaying some of the various European Airlines that show up at Malaga!
I was impressed by the design/layout and the size of the airport- expecting it to be smaller.
After exiting the airport and having a bit of a journey trying to find the place, I had a good time exploring the airport's Aviation Museum!
The main attractions for me were the DC-3, Spantax Beechcraft, Kam Air Convair (I saw its sister ship in Helsinki back in October 2015) and the Iberia DC-9!!!
Thanks for the nice FR! Seriously, Jet2 looks like a very friendly airline! Would love to fly them. The seats look fresh and the meal tasty. Also, loved the models you got to buy!
Bye bye

jet2 was very good. STN base made up of really modern B737-800 all months old and right out of Paine Field! :)
I'm pleasantly surprised at how nice the interior looks! Probably because of the Boeing Sky Interior and mood lighting :-)
Not a fan of Jet2's livery on the 738. Looks must nicer on the 752s. The titles look too big on the 738.
Curry on the plane, yum! So many LCCs have decent hot choices for B.O.B. meals, it always amazes me that legacy U.S. carriers never have hot options on their B.O.B. menus within the U.S...if LCCs all over the world can do it, why can't they. I'm particularly sore on the subject because I had a long 6 hour transcon flight a few days ago (yes, in Economy...the horror ^^). It was dinner time and all they had in the B.O.B. was a snack pack of fake cheese and crackers, ugh.
Your tactical use of fisheye lense almost makes the cabin look spacious...almost :-P
Thanks for sharing!
The firsh-eye shots were taken on my trusty GoPro (as was the video).
The meal was ordered online via the booking, but they have a great mix of snacks & drinks on their BoB.
Can't wait to add a Jet2 b757 one day, though will mean a treck to MAN or NCL...
I am doing some long Economy flights in the US for January, I am prepared for the worse! (Using Delta, Virgin America and AA)
Thanks for this FR.
Wow great fare indeed, it almost makes you feel obligated to purchase extra services.
8£ for a complete meal with some fruits is also pretty good value for money.
For a European Airline, its decent. Ryanair & easyJet don't offer it. I think BA and some other airlines could try it.
I know SAS & Finnair offer it across mainland Europe.
What is the easiest way to get to the air museum?Would like to visit
