Arrival & check in

After spending a week at home, it was time to return. I opted to make a stop in NYC via FLL. Ever since Jetblue began this route, it has been popular amongst Bajans who prefer connection through FLL vs that of MIA. JetBlue has been known for coming at AA's routes out of BGI since their launch in 2008. The airline currently has 4 routes serving Barbados: FLL, BOS, EWR, JFK.
I arrived at Grantley Adams International Airport around 3AM for early check-in.

As I made my way to the desk, I couldn't help but to snap a pic of the now defunct TCX sign. Thomas Cook was a MAJOR carrier in Barbados every winter even before I was born.

Remodeled in 2006, the passenger terminal is now beginning to look dated. A brand new design is about to launch in the upcoming months as the airport has reached capacity.

As the new government came into power last summer, there was a new customs and immigration systems implemented. This meant that the processing times were cut by more than half and the usage of customs forms on departure was ended. This allowed for a more efficient operation.

We boarded the aircraft by stairs and since my row was further aft, I was asked to use the second door.

Momentarily, pushback began and the sun was rising over the Atlantic.

The route today took us north west between St.Lucia and St. Vincent, Over PR and Turks and Caicos then into South Florida. Due to this routing, it allowed the passengers to view some islands.

Soon enough, day light came and the enroute views were obscured by clouds.

Nearing Florida, Andros Island came into view.

A quick washroom break allowed me to snap a pic of the cabin. This was Jetblue's updated A320 cabin, which is less comfortable than the older one.

Since my last visit, FLL has seen some major renovations and is looking quite modern.

Conclusion

Jetblue's 5am departure offered AMAZING views of the Caribbean islands. The early flight also allows for great connections at FLL. The service was typical of JetBlue and was just as enjoyable as all my other experiences with them.
