Hello everyone! Welcome to this trip report covering the flight from Munich to Malta with Air Malta. This year I decided to spend the Christmas in Malta. I booked the ticket in September with a very low price.

Flight routing

On the day of flight we arrived at Munich airport at 14:37pm. My flight would be departing at 16:35pm and the scheduled boarding time was 16:05pm. The airport was quite empty today.

Although we did the online check-in the night before, we also want to print out the paper boarding pass. In Munich, Air Malta is handling by Lufthansa so we could print them out from one of the automatic machines.

We passed through the security control in no time. The BMW display right after the security control.

Our gate was assigned at G28.

At 16:14pm our plane, 9H-AEP finally arrived. Approximately 25 minutes delay. Personally I like the Air Malta livery very much.

This A320-200 was delivered to Air Malta in March 2007. It served Etihad Airways temporarily between 2007 and 2008.

Boarding was started at 16:40pm. As we were queuing up for boarding, the ground staff was asking if we would like to check our hand luggage since the flight was fully booked. The boarding process was very slow and we were stuck in the jet bridge for a while.

My seat 22K. These leather covered seats could hardly be found in most airlines nowadays. This aircraft has 168 seats and a few business class are also available.

The captain explained that the delay was caused by strong headwind and the flight time was expected to be 1 hour and 45 minutes. Pushback was commenced at 17:12pm and the cabin light was dimmed. Safety video was then delivered by the overhead monitor.

At 17:22pm, we took off from RWY26L.

The seat pocket items. The inflight magazine of Air Malta was called Il-Bizzilla. The SKYBAR and duty-free items can be found in the other book.

Passing through somewhere in Slovenia. Lights below were probably coming from Trieste.

The overhead monitor was showing the Airshow throughout the flight until we descent.

At 18:07pm, I brought a Nescafe cappuccino with €3,50. Cash payment was also accepted which was better than British Airways. From 12th July 2018 onwards, like other LCC, Air Malta no longer provide any free food and drinks and instead introduced the BOB services. The cup was just the normal one without any Air Malta design.

At 19:34pm, I visited the lavatory at the back. It was quite clean but also without any amenities.

The fleet of Air Malta are consisted of A320CEO and A320NEO. Air Malta is gradually replacing its fleet by A320neo.

Currently, Air Malta is serving 25 destinations in Europe and Africa.

As we were flying over Sicily, our plane started to descend. We have been passing through Austrian, Slovenia into Adriatic Sea, and flying through the center part of the Italy and Sicily.

Descending into Malta International Airport and at 19:03pm, we landed on RWY6. Total flight time was 1 hour and 41 minutes.

Finally took a picture of my seat during disembarking.

I got off the plane from the back. There are no airbridge in Malta airport.

Conclusion

It is understandable that for small European airlines like Air Malta, are facing many challenges from LCC. Cost reduction measures of changing the complimentary meal to BOB for short flights less than 2 hours is acceptable for me. Considering the price of the ticket and what I experienced during the flight is really consistent.
