Hello and welcome to another flight report of mine.
What a year 2022 has been… I've already taken lots of flights, some better, some worse ones. But wait a second? There hasn't been a single flight-report from me this year. I am deeply sorry, really, but somehow I did not manage to get the time to cover my previous flights at all.
Means: We have got November, but this is my first flight report this year. Really crazy. I promise 2023 will be better ;).
But now talking about the flight itself: Even though the Lufthansa App shows MUC-ZRH, I in fact flew MUC-ZRH-OPO. As MUC-ZRH was already covered, see flight report below, we'll now be starting off at beautiful Zurich Airport.
Background:
I had a really short connection time in Zurich. But as my flight from Munich to Zurich had a delay of no less than one hour (Flight time was about 30 minutes ;)) I had just ten minutes left to connect in Zurich.
Disclaimer: I made it to the connecting flight, but my baggage did not. But at the time of the flight, I did not know that yet.
Flight routing
- 1
- 2LX2060 - Business - Zurich -> Porto - Airbus A321
- 3LH1783 - Business - Porto -> Munich - Airbus A320
Thanks for bringing me to Zurich, HB-JLQ.
Seems I was not the only one running to the connecting flight xD.
I really love Zurich Airport and do enjoy connecting there, definitely more than in Frankfurt and would say it is equally good to Munich.
In the Airplane
Say Hi to "Wengen", HB-IOH. It is one of just three SWISS A321-100. At that time, it was just five days out of storage from Amman in Jordan, when it came back for the Holiday season - and brought me to Porto.
Helvetic parking next to us with one of their many E190-E2. A beautiful plane, in my opinion. Looking forward to fly it in the coming months.
Though in December 2021, some of them were still stored because of Covid. Here you can see a bunch of them standing in front of "Heligrill", a very popular spot for Planespotters here in ZRH.
Who doesn't love this view. Phenomenal picture in my opinion! Crossing the runway on the way to our takeoff runway.
Lining up on runway 16 with an airplane taking off in the background. Just beautiful.
takeoff
ZRH watering their grass ^^.
Dock-E.
Take-off! Zurich Airport is just wonderful.
And Dock-A :).
Dock A and D.
One has to love this view.
And the maintenance apron.
Can the view get any better?
And then we directly overflew the airport. Just look at the plane standing on the runway.
And let's get the flight started.
Switzerland in winter is more than beautiful.
Let's get the service started!
Appetiser
Duval & Leroy Champagne, appetiser and a disinfectant wipe.
That is the first big plus for SWISS in comparison to Lufthansa. Real champagne and not just sparkling wine like on Lufthy.
Wow!
Main meal
Then, the meal was served.
I had the choice between pasta and veal. Obviously went with the meat, though the Maitre de Cabine served me the pasta. Was no problem as she quickly changed the meal though.
And without plastic covers.
One word sums it up: Amazing.
It was indeed one of the best and most tasty meals I have gotten on my uncountable flights to Porto on Lufthansa, SWISS and Brussels. Great job.
Coffee and dessert
I would say that the dessert was even better. Pretty much the best I have been served on an airplane.
Cabin view from row 4.
Nice head-rest covers and seat details.^^
We afterwards already started our descent into Porto.
landing
There were clouds and a thin layer of fog laying above Porto.
Newly built Taxiway Foxtrot Extension with a Brussels Airlines A320 waiting for departure to Brussels.
The terminal was absolutely empty for the 23th of December. One could really see that Covid still was a thing, especially in Portugal.
Afterwards I proceeded to the Covid document checks and baggage claim - seeing that my baggage did not make it in Zurich.
In the end, I got it four hours later with the following SWISS flight from Zurich, so all in all, everything was fine.
Thanks for reading and best regards, see you in my next report!
Hi Lars, thanks for sharing this FR to a great destination.
It is surprising to see how small ZRH looks from above, feels bigger inside. It is one of the better transit airports for *A in Europe, but obviously lacks the number of intra-European flight options that you’d see in MUC.
The catering looks good for this flight and it is nice that they course the meal with dessert served once the tray is cleared. You are absolutely correct that LX just feels a step up from LH in most aspects. TP would also offer a good product on this route and probably offers a better appetizer since LX opts for a salad, but LX desserts look superior (I’ve seen different versions of this cake with different fruits). Thanks again!
Thank you very much for commenting, NGO85. Porto is indeed beautiful and I am happy to be there quite frequently.
Indeed ZRH looks tiny on the pictures, especially Dock D, but it is just amazing for transferring and features great SWISS Lounges.
The catering for a flight with block time of 02:35 hours is just great. TP indeed has some nice appetizers, flew them on FNC-LIS lately, report still to come, but I find the TAP desserts to be quite basic. LX definitely has the best desserts in my opinion.
Thanks again for commenting!
