Routing

Welcome to the third leg of this outbound trip to Cusco. Had an early arrival (after a long delay) and went to the city for Sunday brunch. After enjoying some time in Larcomar, made our way back to the airport.

LIMA airport Lounge - el salon by newrest

After going through security for domestic flights (very fluid), we made our way to the only lounge available in this section of the airport.

Very small lounge with limited seating space. Food and drinks also very limited.

Some of this afternoon's departures

After a short stay in the lounge, we proceeded to our gate, which located in the gate bus area

Flight was on time

Boarding was very organized, by groups. Premium Economy is the highest class in Domestic flights and grants you Group 1 boarding.

Conclusion

Short flight with very low expectations. Surprisingly, a snack and drinks were served. Departure airport was very efficient at security and boarding, as well as arrival airport. Cabin needs a refreshment, as the seats are uncomfortable and show their age. Staff was very cordial but the interaction in such a short flight is limited.

Ah this route brings back good memories of my own trip to Machu Picchu a few years ago. I also flew LATAM--looks like things have changed, but are still mediocre on this short domestic route. I like that they offer Premium Economy now on the route for more space and more baggage allowance and flexibility. The onboard service is unremarkable, similar to my domestic experience within Chile last year in Premium Economy as well. But overall I found Premium Economy to be a good value as it wasn't much more than standard Economy fares with bags included. The fact that LATAM have streaming IFE now is a nice change too from my previous experience on this route.

The lounges in the little domestic part of the terminal are so tiny. I remember feeling very claustrophobic in the Domestic terminal between the tiny lounge and the crowded gate area with so many flights leaving from such a small space.

Yikes, I'm disappointed to see the poor state of the seats on this aircraft with new cabins. They're only a few years old at most so it's sad to see so much wear already--it should not be looking that beat up so soon.

    Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Kevin! The flight itself was a surprising experience in terms of the level of service. I have to admit that compared to Economy, it wasn’t cheap (around $150 vs $55) but we went for it anyways, as we booked 7 out of the 8 seats for our family so it was fun.

Btw, and totally unrelated, I used to live in Paris and now live in DC so most of the flights you review have been useful to me, but I had a recent great experience thanks to a review you made (CDG-PHL). As an AA Plat Pro, booked BA/AA for my most recent trip to Paris and the CDG-PHL flight in Premium Eco has been so far the most remarkable flight I’ve ever had in PE on any airline, I only gave it a try after seeing your review. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time and energy to take enough pictures for a report.

That's awesome, thank you! So glad to hear when reviews can be helpful! I'm definitely a fan of Premium Eco--and IMO the US carriers do it very well. I'm AA Plat Pro as well, but definitely fly BA and IB way more than AA for long-haul in J. When flying W, I believe AA is better, though they all have decent products. Though I don't live in DC anymore, I do still have family there--and of course in France as well--so I still do some TATL from the East coast at time, but TATL J to/from DC on oneworld has because CRAZY expensive (and even PHL) so I've been making the trek up to NYC now whenever I need to do TATL from the East Coast. I'll get around to posting those eventually haha...I have such a huge backlog. For me taking pics isn't so much the problem as it's just become automatic over the years. It's finding the time to actually write up the reviews afterwards. Thanks again for the kind words and keep up the good work with the reviews :-)
