Hello everyone, welcome to my report again. This series will cover the trip from Germany to Spain with Lufthansa. In January I was planning a trip to Barcelona, and instead of a return ticket to Barcelona, the ticket price was cheaper if we flew back from Madrid.

Flight routing

30 hours before departure, I checked in online, and since I purchased the Light fare, the seat would be automatically assigned by the system. It turned out that I was not happy with the arrangement and therefore I paid to change my seat. By that time, a lot of seats were occupied and at last I chose 34F window seat.

One day before departure, I received an Email from Lufthansa that our flight was fully booked and we were able to checked our carry-on luggage free of charge.

On the day of flight we arrived at the airport at 6:57am in the morning.

Once we got into the terminal we headed directly to the automatic machine to print of the boarding pass, and also the baggage tag, then we checked our luggage at the drop-off counters.

We printed out also our paper boarding pass from the machine.

Since there were lots of people in the departure hall, we decided to get to the gate as fast as possible. It took us about 15 minutes to get through the security check.

Our gate was assigned at K13, and we had to take the people mover to the satellite terminal.

photo dsc03735

We arrived at gate K13 at 7:55am and the passengers from the previous flight were just getting off from the aircraft.

Our plane had just arrived from Gothenburg and now getting prepared for our flight. D-AIDX is the newest Lufthansa A321ceo, which was delivered in February 2015. The plane carries the name "Siegen".

At 8:36am, pre-boarding announcement was made for the priority boarding and 4 minutes later, group 3 was called.

For economy class, we embarked the aircraft from the L2 door.

My seat 34F. The cabin was still fitted with the typical NEK seats, with a seat pitch of 29.8". The first six rows were assigned as business class.

Boarding was completed at 8:58pm, minutes later our captain announced that we were going to leave our parking position and then followed by our purser, who informed us the flight time would be an hour and 30 minutes. However, we continued to wait at the gate and until 9:15am as the captain made another announcement afterwards that we were still waiting for some document. Pushback eventually commenced at 9:29am. The safety demonstration was performed by the crew in person.

Then we saw the two new A319 of the newly established Lufthansa subsidiary, D-ABGP and D-ABGK of Lufthansa City. Both aircrafts have not been entered service yet.

Waiting for an Lufthansa A319, D-AIBC inbound Bilbao to land, before we can take off.

At 9:50am we lifted off from runway 08R.

photo dsc03754

Seconds after takeoff, we turned to the right and headed south.

photo dsc03755

About four minutes after takeoff, the Flynet was available. I connected the onboard internet with my cell phone. There we could find some information of our flight.

photo img_46351

In addition, there was also a flight map.

And these were the tariffs for different internet options.

Soon we passed through Tegernsee from the east.

15 minutes after takeoff, a bottle of water was served. I read the news in May that Lufthansa would like to start a trial of reintroducing free coffee and tea in this summer due to the drop of customer satisfaction in recent years, but it did not happen on this flight.

As we were approaching Italy, clouds were starting to build up and we could hardly see anything below.

photo dsc03760

At 10:20am, I visited the lavatory at the back.

Back to my seat, I started browsing the Onboard Delights, and I decided to order the Dallmayr coffee, with milk and sugar. The coffee was served by a plastic cup instead of paper in the past. A milk chocolate was also given to me.

Soon, we were flying over southern France, over Marseille. The airport of Marseille could be seen clearly, which is located in the south of Étang de Berre.

Not long afterwards we entered the Mediterranean Sea after leaving France.

photo dsc03767

About 20 minutes later, we reached the northeastern coast of Spain.

photo dsc03768

At 11:09am, it was announced that we were leaving the cruising altitude and had begun our approach into Barcelona airport. It was getting cloudy as we approached the city.

At 11:25am, we landed on runway 24R. Total flight time was 1 hour and 35 minutes.

After a short taxi, we parked at gate B32/34 in terminal T1.

The arrival and departure hall are the same, like in many places in Europe.

Conclusion

Nothing special about the flight, as many people mentioned before, the cutting of the complementary drink and snacks service and also the seat reservation make it no different from a low cost carrier.

  • Nice report as usual!

as many people mentioned before, the cutting of the complementary drink and snacks service and also the seat reservation make it no different from a low cost carrier.

Yeah, unfortunately true or LH and most European legacy carriers these days. Really the main reason to fly on legacy carriers anymore is for the alliance/mileage programme, especially if you have status, and for the long-haul network. Otherwise, if you don't care about status or miles and are just flying short-haul, then yeah, it's all the same and might as well just fly whoever's cheapest or has the better schedule.

It is nice that LH have free messaging though, something that LCCs don't have. Although LH's WiFi rollout is far from complete.
