- 3DL 194 - Economy - Atlanta → Barcelona - Boeing 767-400(ER)
A visual of my entire journey from Salt Lake City to Barcelona via PHX & ATL which would cover a total distance of 6,678mi/10,748km. This trip report will cover the third and last leg of the journey.
Introduction
Welcome to another trip report! Today I'm starting off at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson international airport where I'm currently on a layover from my previous red-eye flight that arrived from PHX earlier that morning. If you want to know the whole back story then go check out my first TR where I explained how I got here.
Concourse E Sky Club
I currently find myself at the Sky Club in concourse E (which personally seems to be my favorite of all of them at ATL) where I'm getting a light dinner before my long haul flight to Barcelona later tonight.
The Sky Club has a nice array of food items (both hot and cold) and plenty of other drinks and snacks on offer. I went for a croissant slider, mashed potatoes, yellow rice and some chicken which was all very delicious.
One of my favorite parts though was the coffee machine which I went all for while I was here. 😅
Was able to lock in a place by the windows to be able and catch some action on the ramp while I enjoy my coffee and cookies 😋.
My aircraft
Crazy coincidence that I happen to catch an amazing view of my Boeing 767-400(ER) that'll be taking me across the pond to Barcelona this evening. This would actually be my second time flying this airframe, first time being two years ago when I flew from Madrid to Atlanta back in 2022.
For tonight's flight I booked an emergency exit window seat on the right side of the plane. That window next to door 3R will be where I'll be sitting in just a few moments.
After spending a few hours at the SkyClub, it was time to start heading to the gate area.
My flight is DL 194.
I've flown to Barcelona several times over the years but this will be my first time flying this particular non-stop route from Atlanta. It's about 1.5h longer of flight time versus flying the JFK to BCN one.
Gate E9
This will be tonight's departure gate.
Once again here's another up close and personal view of my beautiful 767.
Some information about my plane:
Flight number: DL 194
Aircraft: Boeing 767-432(ER)
Registration: N825MH
Delivered: October 9, 1999
Age: 24 years (at time of flight)
This aircraft is configured in a premium heavy four classes which consist of: 34 Delta One, 20 Premium select, 28 Comfort+ and 156 Main Cabin seats for a total capacity of 238 passengers. For this flight I'll be sitting in 41G (exit row). Seat map courtesy of aerolopa.
Boarding
Boarding began promptly and I boarded with SkyPriority group.
Walking by the Premium Select cabin (DL's version of premium economy) which looks quite nice and spacious.
And behind that is the mini comfort+ section that only consisted of 3 rows.
Behind that is the main economy class cabin.
Seat
Here's my seat for the next 8 hours, 41G.
The seat comes with a thick comfortable headrest which will make for comfortable resting.
In addition, waiting at each seat was a plastic sealed pillow and blanket.
For this aircraft being 24 years old, DL has done a very good job maintaining this plane in shape. From the inside it looks relatively new and kept together.
The reason I booked this seat was for the legroom which was pretty much unlimited despite the slight obstruction from emergency slide.
The view out my window.
The seat back contents for this seat are located against the wall.
The overhead panel consisted of an individual reading light and air vent.
Boarding is complete and today's flight across the Atlantic is completely full at 100% in all cabins.
shortly after the FA's came through the cabin offering complimentary main cabin amenity kits and headphones.
Directly next to us is the newly opened centurion lounge which I visited on my return and is also one of my favorite lounges here in ATL.
Pushback
You can check out the entire pushback and takeoff in the video below:
We pushed back from the gate right on time.
Airbus A320 departing for Dallas (DFW); flight time: 1h 41m
Boeing 717 departing for Oklahoma City (OKC); flight time: 1h 38m
Just ahead of us is a Boeing 757-200 departing for Richmond (RIC); flight time: 1h 8m
Takeoff on runway 27R
It was our turn for takeoff.
See you in a few weeks ATL!
Eventually we flew into a thick cloud layer which seemed to have lasted forever.
The reading light and FA call button are located within the armrest.
The PTV also slides out from the armrest. Which was a decent size and very responsive.
The cabin lights were turned on to signal the start of the dinner service.
Shortly after we had taken off, it rapidly began to get dark outside.
Here's a look at the tray table which also folds out of the armrest. Surprisingly this tray table was quite sturdy and not awkwardly slanted like most fold out tray tables are.
The FA's began the service by handing out full size water bottles and utensil sleeves to everyone.
My set up ;).
Dinner service
Due to some bad turbulence right as we took off from ATL, dinner service was delayed and was served about 1.5 hours into flight. Options for dinner tonight were chicken or pasta, I went for the first option.
The meal tray also came with a cranberry kale salad and a lemon bar for dessert.
The main entrée also included mashed potatoes and steamed baby carrots aside from the grilled chicken. The entire dish was flavorful and cooked to perfection!
The kale salad was good but lacked dressing.
The lemon bar was good but would've appreciated something more substantial like an ice cream cup of piece of cake that is actually made fresh then something pre-packaged.
The dinks cart later followed and I went for a beer which paired perfectly with the meal.
Overall the meal was great!
After the meal trays were collected, the cabin lights were turned off so everyone can get some rest.
After napping for about 2 hours I woke up somewhere over the mid Atlantic.
Inflight entertainment system
Here's a look at Delta's IFE system.
Which included a good amount of movies, tv shows and music to listen too. More then plenty to keep one entertained on a flight of this length.
My favorite part though was exploring the interactive map 😅.
The loo
It's that time in the flight to pay the loo a visit.
It's cool that DL offers a full length mirror in the loo's as most airline don't offer this that I know of. So you can check yourself out from head to toe when you need to do so 😉.
Surprisingly it was kept clean despite being more then 4 hours into flight already which was nice.
Mid-flight snack
From the loo I decided to head to the back galley and see what snacks they had on offer since we wouldn't be getting an official mid-flight service. The snacks on offer weren't anything extravagant but the typical ones you would otherwise be served on a domestic flight in economy. There were cheese wedges, crackers, biscoff cookies, granola bars and sun chips.
An overall look at the cabin.
After stretching out I went back to my seat to enjoy the snacks I got earlier.
I went to the galley once again but this time to pour myself a cup of orange juice.
Cabin lights were turned on once again for the start of the breakfast service.
Breakfast service
About an hour before arrival breakfast was served. The tray consisted of an egg and cheese calzone as the entree, blueberry yogurt and utensil sleeve.
The egg and cheese calzone was good although could of used a little more filling.
The highlight of the meal would have to be the blueberry yogurt which was very good.
Shortly after the drinks cart came by and I went for a coffee.
While enjoying my breakfast, the sun began to rise outside.
Overall this was a great breakfast and still more substantial then anything you would get on AA or UA.
Flying directly over Bilbao.
Morning sunrises are the best especially from the sky.
City of Huesca
Initial descent
Not long after the captain came over the PA to announce we had begun our initial descent into Barcelona.
The FA's passed by the cabin giving out these chocolates to conclude the onboard service.
The FA's began preparing the cabin for landing.
BCN in the distance.
You can check out the entire descent and landing in the video below:
Looks like I'll be treated to some spectacular views of Barcelona on our descent.
Can you spot La Sagrada Familia and Torre Glòries?
Barceloneta beach and the iconic W hotel.
Landing on runway 24R
Welcome to Barcelona!
We arrived at the gate 40 minutes ahead of schedule, well done DL.
Deplaning
We'd be deplaning using the 1L door which gave me a chance to look at DL's fantastic looking Delta One cabin.
This concludes the journey and trip report, thanks for reading!
Thanks for sharing, DL is definitely still atop the US3 pyramid. Their attention to fleet maintenance is excellent, you wouldn't guess it is a 25-year old plane from the hard product. Catering continues to regress, but at least they still give out hot items for breakfast.
Thanks for reading!
Nice report as always ! This is about as good as it gets in transatlantic Economy these days. I assume you have a Sky Club membership since Gold/Platinum/Diamond members no longer have access when flying in Economy (which is crazy, like what’s the point of of having status? That’s one of the biggest benefits normally).
The meals look really good and looks like you picked the best seat in Economy. I don’t usually like Exit rows like that because they don’t have windows or the windows are very misaligned, but it looks like you had a good window.
