This flight was on the aircraft (VT-ANY/ 7 Years old at the time). I will show you the improved Air India experience post Tata takeover.
The rows 11 and 12 in economy give a clear and unobstructed view of the engine which really shows the massive size of the GE engines.
The 787 next to us was Vistara's 787-9 (VT-TSO).The merger of Vistara (a joint venture between Tata and Singapore Airlines) with Air India is scheduled for November 12.
The seat was very comfortable with ample legroom with a footrest as well . However it wasn't the cleanest seat and my entertainment control remote was taped up and out of use which was a bit of a disappointment. The most surprising thing about the seat is that the IFE was working and responsive which is uncommon for Air India.
As we taxied to the runway we could see Air India's sibling airline Air India Express parked side by side with its bigger brother.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner features electronically controlled, dimmable windows that can be adjusted to any shade. The window is also one of the biggest I have seen ,and they measure approximately 27.2 cm x 46.7 cm (10.7 inches x 18.4 inches which is significantly larger than the windows on most other commercial aircraft.
As we reached cruising altitude the first snack service began with crunchy corn and a drink of choice.
Then began the meal service with option of veg and non veg. I opted for the non veg with consisted of chicken curry , rice, small bun and chocolate mousse. Air India meals aren't always the most presentable but they are very flavorful.
One of the two lavatories in my seating zone was temporarily closed for unknown reasons and the working one was dirty with used tissues all around.👎
The view from this seat had me staring through the window for the majority of the flight. The wing flex of the 787 is a beautiful sight.
I happened to spot this same aircraft(VT-ANY) 2 years before from another plane at Cochin Intl.
We descended into Dubai as the sky began to set. The approach really reveals the flexibility of these wings especially at times of turbulence.
We reached Dubai 15 behind schedule but had a very smooth landing. Air India uses T1 of DXB which is one of the best terminals to spot all sorts of widebody aircraft like the A340 as T3 is the home base for Dubai based airline Emirates and T2 can only receive narrow body aircraft.
Oh man, that cabin is falling appart. I know that has no bearing on safety, but just seeing tape holding the IFE remote doesn't instil confidence about maintenance in general. AI have definitely made progress with the newer planes, but they urgently need to refurb the 787 and older 777 fleet. They'll never get rid of their poor reputation completely while flying cabins that are falling appart and dirty like this.
