Qatar Airways Doha → London

Super smooth transit after landing into BKK. Review also up for my BKK-DOH QR831 flight.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

Time to unwind in the Al Maha Lounge, courtesy of our PP membership through American Express.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

A clean and bright lounge. A little busy but we grabbed a table.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

Some great Arabic mezze on offer including delightful hummus pots and tabouleh.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

And this date and saffron crumble cake, delightful!

Qatar Airways Doha → London

Time to head over to our gate for the flight back to London Heathrow.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

C19 for us and a very slow boarding process ensued. Another delayed QR departure. Two in a row never fills me with much confidence.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

Our aircraft for today is this Boeing 777-300ER (A7-BEW) taking us back to LHR.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

Then we were boarded onto an airbridge with zero movement and zero air conditioning. I love a game of boarding NOT boarding!

Qatar Airways Doha → London

Our seats home, 22A/C, a pair of two located at the rear of the first Economy cabin. Definitely snag these if travelling as a couple!

Qatar Airways Doha → London

Pre-departure and the crew handed out a refreshing towel. The cabin crew were much warmer on this flight than our first encounter on QR831.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

And due to the temperature on-board, the crew asked all window shades to be closed and complimentary water was handed out.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

QR's operation never ceases to amaze me. It's huge!

Qatar Airways Doha → London

Goodbye DOH! A great airport experience for sure.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

I like smaller Economy cabins, be it psychology or not, they make the journey feel more spacious and private.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

Me testing Starlink. This is a GAMECHANGER. 261mb/ps download. My husband streamed the football on the Sky Go app flawlessly, whilst I backed up 85GB of footage with total ease.

Qatar Airways Doha → LondonQatar Airways Doha → London

A drinks service started. I opted for a bloody mary and this came with a pack of sour cream and onion crunchy corn. I'm not a fan!

Qatar Airways Doha → London

Then time for dinner. A meatballs, gravy and mash with vegetables. We both had the same. Nothing special, sadly. I'm really disappointed with Qatar Airways. Especially an airline that brands itself as a "5-star airline". I'd beg to differ.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

The starter was this mash up of vegetables and seeds. I'd like to ban all forms of quinoa, seeds, and vegetable salads as starters. There's so many other interesting dishes that QR could serve. What about a small pot of hummus and some Arabic breads or other type of mezze. Stay true to your heritage and roots!

Qatar Airways Doha → London

And this chocolate, cookies and cream brownie pot. Very sickly and almost "synthetically-sweet".

Qatar Airways Doha → London

The lights then started to dim and I managed to bag a few hours sleep.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

The toilets were much cleaner on this leg of the journey, BUT…

Qatar Airways Doha → London

…there was NO running water to wash your hands!

Qatar Airways Doha → London

I thought this view was beautiful. Flying is the only place where all your problems dissolve. It's the most carefree place in the world.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

Before arriving into LHR, a light snack was served.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

A warm lattice pastry. Greasy, fatty and poor. I took one bite and left it.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

As we approach LHR, we catch the last moments of daylight as the sun begins to set.

Qatar Airways Doha → London

And with that, we were down!

Qatar Airways Doha → London

This experience flying with QR from BKK-DOH-LHR was really poor. I don't know what I expected but there was some expectation for them to, at least in part, to deliver a world-class service when in reality, what we received was something completely different and very lacklustre. Have you flown QR recently? Let me know your thoughts. Perhaps this was just a real off day for QR or part of something much bigger? Curious to know your thoughts.

Conclusion

Today, I’m flying Qatar Airways’ Airbus A380 from Bangkok to Heathrow, via Doha — a route operated by what’s often called "one of the world’s best airlines". But as you’ll see in this video… this flight was anything but impressive.

From tired cabins and poorly maintained toilets to disinterested crew and lacklustre service, this experience fell miles short of the reputation Qatar Airways has built. I’d imagined something truly world-class — but instead, it felt like any other ordinary long-haul flight, in fact, something worse than average.

Join me for the full review as we cover every part of the journey: from check-in in Bangkok, to transiting through Doha, to our eventual arrival in Heathrow — including the onboard meals, in-flight entertainment, seat comfort, and overall service. Was this just an off day, or has the magic of Qatar Airways begun to fade?

  • Hi, thanks for sharing!

While it didn’t seem like your flights were great, I have to say I’m a bit confused about your 4/10 score on entertainment. Surely with such good wifi should be 9-10/10 no? Additionally with the “warmer cabin crew on this flight”

Just curious, as I agree that QR has slipped in many different ways, but credit where it’s due with starlink!

Anyways, thanks for sharing and safe travels!

    • Hey! Apologies, score changed to reflect Starlink. It showed the same as my first flight (my fault there). No issues with the Oryx system or Starlink (a game changer) but as discussed, certain enhancements like the meal section, that was blank, could be detail-driven to improve the customer experience. Appreciate you watching and reading!

  • Even i felt there is something missing in Qatar Airways, it is quite interesting that the service is like hit or miss whether it is soft or hard service.
