Hello and welcome to this new Flight Report. I usually write Flight Reports in french but Canberra is in lockdown right now, so I decided to write old flight reports in English because I was bored. This is from my annual trip to France in 2019. Here is the routing :

Routing

  • CBR-BNE in Business with QantasLink - B717 Vous etes ici
  • BNE-DXB in Business with Emirates - B777 A venir
  • DXB-FRA in Business with Emirates - B777 A venir
  • FRA-TLS in Economy with Lufthansa - A320 Non reporté
  • TLS-FRA in Economy with Lufthansa - A320 A venir
  • FRA-DXB in Business with Emirates - A380 A venir
  • DXB-MEL in Business with Emirates - A380 A venir
  • MEL-CBR in Business with Qantas - B737 A venir

I arrived at the airport quite late. I (sadly) didn't have enough time to head to the lounge.

The modern airport isn't very busy, so we checked-in and cleared security very quickly. We arrived at the gate, but my 717 was delayed by around half an hour.

Next to our gate there were a few pieces of art, which I photographed.

The 717 is here ! It's VH-YQW. It was built in 2006. It flew 3 years for Midwest, before joining MexicanaClick (Mexicana's regional subsidiary). It finally arrived in Australia in 2014. It's painted in the "Discover Tasmania" livery.

Due to the age of the airplane, I thought the cabin was going to be outdated, but I was pleasantly surprised with a brand new cabin. It really didn't feel like I was sitting on a 15 year old airplane. This cabin is in a 2-2 configuration in Business, and 2-3 in Economy. I was assigned the aisle seat, but as there was no-one sitting in the window seat, I switched seats after boarding finished. This seat is miles away from European Business class, which is just economy with the middle seats blocked. This is a great seat for a less than 2 hours flight.

Quick seat tour. The recline button :

The mini table for drinks, which is very practical.

I went for water. I don't remember what the other choices were, sorry…

There is also a literature pocket, but as I was sitting in 1C (and 1A after boarding ended) it was a little out of reach. The legroom was ample, though.

I moved to the window seat when I realised no one was going to occupy the seat next to me.

Goodbye CBR !

I didn't include take off photos, I took some but there was nothing to see in the pitch black night. In the literature pocket, I found some heaphones. They were no use for this flight, as IFE screens were not installed. It didn't bother me on a flight less than 2 hours.

I also took a photo of the power outlet and USB port after we reached our cruising altitude :

My new seat, with the recline. The recline was good.

Then came the food. I got the chicken. It was served with (hot)  bread, butter and a "Pecan Caramel Cake". The chicken was delicious, and the Pecan Caramel Cake was also very good.

I then decided to head to the lavatory. It was clean, and not too cramped for an aircraft this size.

Before starting our descent, the cabin crew gave out sweets, which is a nice touch, especially on a short flight.

Same as for the departure, it was pitch dark outside, so there are no photos. We arrived in BNE, and I headed to the gate for my next flight, to DXB with EK. Thanks for reading !

Hi SIA380, thanks for sharing this cool report!

I usually write Flight Reports in french but Canberra is in lockdown right now, so I decided to write old flight reports in English because I was bored.

Haha, glad you did! I always love seeing reports from Australia

It flew 3 years for Midwest, before joining MexicanaClick

Ah, brings back memories. I used to fly Midwest weekly between MKE and MSP so I'm sure I've flown on this one before. Was so nice when they were in all-J config with Midwest

Due to the age of the airplane, I thought the cabin was going to be outdated, but I was pleasantly surprised with a brand new cabin.

Definitely a good looking cabin on a not-so-young frame

QF's catering on very short flights like this has always been impressive to me. From more recent reports I've seen, it looks like it hasn't changed much from the days of this report, despite the pandemic. And I believe they even brought back hot meals in Economy on some longer domestic routes.

    Thanks for sharing!

It's definitely miles away from some European airlines, where you only get cold food in business...
