Today's journey begins at London Heathrow's Terminal 3.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121348

With Finnair being based in Zone C alongisde JAL, Cathay Pacific and Qantas.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121401

The Priority lane is located off to the left, and was practically empty.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121412

Our bags were checked and dropped in a matter of minutes.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121423

All Finnair business tickets departing Heathrow include Fast Track security as standard.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121451

With a Finnair business class ticket, you also get access to any Oneworld lounge, including the Qantas lounge.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121508

There's also the American Airlines Admirals lounge.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121529

The British Airways Galleries/Club lounge.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121543

And also the Cathay Pacific Lounge, although frustratingly, they were restricting access to CX passengers only. A bit annoying but it is what it is. If you want a comprehensive tour of the other lounges, you can find the video above, but for now I'm going to take you on a tour of the Qantas lounge.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121559

I love the central bar inside the Qantas lounge, it's very stylish.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121610

We started with a Strawberry Spritz cocktail, a mixture of strawberry puree, vodka, lemon juice and sparkling wine. It was very strong!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121630

There were a variety of salads and cold options available.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121653

There was also hot sweetcorn chowder soup with crispy tortilla chips and a variety of other hot food options available as well.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121638

These great dessert pots! I was a big fan of the strawberry shortcake ones.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121701

If you also ever get the chance to dine downstairs, I highly recommend it. Sadly, it was closed for works today. Do get the salt and pepper squid - it's as every bit as good as people say.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121811

It was then time for us to head to the gate.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121825

And flying us over to Helsinki this evening is this Airbus A350-900, which was delivered to Finnair back in September 2016, making it nearly 10 years old. It still looks brand new in my opinion!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121835

Finnair board Business Class passengers first through this dedicated lane and after a few minutes of waiting…

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121843

…we were down the airbridge and on our way to the aircraft.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121859

The husband was in 8D.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121955

And I was in 8H.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121941

The AirLounge business class cabin is in a 1/2/1 seating layout, so the D/H seats are perfect for couples travelling together.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-121913

And the initial impression from the husband was a big thumbs up!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122037

The legroom is really good and there's lot of space no matter what your size. My partner is 6ft 3" and even he said he couldn't reach the end of the seat/bed.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122016

The AirLounge is unique in that it doesn't recline. The only moving part is where your legs go when you're sitting upright. This moves upwards with the right hand bit clicking into place creating a fully lie-flat surface.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122047

And with that, we began our pushback from stand. I do love the A350 cameras!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122057

There was me feeling like I was playing Flight Simulator and monitoring that centre line adherence!!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122109

And after a rather long take-off roll, we were airborne.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122026

Where the A350 is utilised on short-haul routings, you don't receive any of the additional perks like amenity kits, pre-boarding drinks or over ear noise cancelling headphones. You do get this small pair of in ear headphones, though.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122121

The crew began their service with a hot towel. This smelt great!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122134

And to relax even further I popped the moving part of the seat up so that I was essentially on one big chaise longue/bed.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122147

When in Rome, the husband snuck in a 10 minute power nap before the meal service.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122200

The drinks service followed shortly afterwards with the snack being a packet of salted pretzels. You know how I feel about these but at least these ones are more palatable than the sour cream and chive ones!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122215

The husband went for a blueberry juice and Kyro Vodka, what a combo! All drinks are served in Finnair's signature glassware.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122306

I had a brief glance over the IFE, and I'm always impressed about how responsive it is. It's touch screen enabled too…

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122319

…or if you prefer, you can use the IFE remote located in the storage cupboard behind the seat.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122333

A quick check over the toilets and they were incredibly clean. I also love the feature window.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122341

What a view!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122350

The toilets are also stocked with amenities from Finnish-brand, SEES.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122359

In the days before departure, Finnair prompted us to select our meals through the Finnair app or website. You had a great selection to choose from… See if you can guess what the husband and I went for!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122430

The starter was a smoked fish salad with lemon mayonnaise, salad and cherry tomatoes.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122420

For the husband, he pre-ordered the grilled chicken fillet with tomato yoghurt sauce, lentil rice and green beans. He said it was delicious although could have done with just a bit more sauce.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122504

And for myself, I chose the game meat patty with liquorice sauce, mashed potatoes, turnip puree, carrots and brussels sprouts and it was HEAVENLY! Honestly, the game patty was just so moist and tnender, almost like a hamburger and that liquorice sauce was divine.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122442

There was bread too, I opted for the white roll…

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122451

…and the husband the Finnish rye bread.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122530

Tea and coffee were then served, I opted for a very strong Finnish coffee.

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122735

And then dessert followed shortly afterwards. It was a salted caramel and cardamom pastry bun. Very tasty but very sweet!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122744

I then opted for a 20 minute power nap, too. It seems only fair and right to take advantage of this bed!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122808

And as I woke up, we were approaching Helsinki. Quite a fast flight time today!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122840

A very smooth landing, these A350 cameras coming into their own again!

photo screenshot-2026-05-17-at-122858

Oh, and for his first time in the AirLounge, he was very complimentary about it! Hope you enjoyed the watch and read, and thanks as always. See you next week!

Conclusion

Join me as I return to Finnair’s game-changing AirLounge, this time with my husband joining me for the journey, to find out whether Finnair still deserves its place among Europe’s very best airlines.

Before we even step onboard, we explore the premium lounge experience at Heathrow Terminal 3, visiting the lounges of Qantas, American Airlines, and British Airways to see which one truly offers the best start to a long-haul journey. From the design and atmosphere to the food and overall experience, we put them all to the test.

Then it’s time to board Finnair’s long-haul aircraft and settle into the airline’s unique AirLounge seat for the flight from London to Helsinki. Expect a full, in-depth review of the onboard experience, including the seat, service, food, entertainment, and comfort coupled with my honest commentary.

But after all the hype surrounding Finnair’s bold new concept, does the AirLounge still feel industry-leading in 2026, or has the competition finally caught up?
