Today's journey begins at London Heathrow's Terminal 3.

With Finnair being based in Zone C alongisde JAL, Cathay Pacific and Qantas.

The Priority lane is located off to the left, and was practically empty.

Our bags were checked and dropped in a matter of minutes.

All Finnair business tickets departing Heathrow include Fast Track security as standard.

With a Finnair business class ticket, you also get access to any Oneworld lounge, including the Qantas lounge.

There's also the American Airlines Admirals lounge.

The British Airways Galleries/Club lounge.

And also the Cathay Pacific Lounge, although frustratingly, they were restricting access to CX passengers only. A bit annoying but it is what it is. If you want a comprehensive tour of the other lounges, you can find the video above, but for now I'm going to take you on a tour of the Qantas lounge.

I love the central bar inside the Qantas lounge, it's very stylish.

We started with a Strawberry Spritz cocktail, a mixture of strawberry puree, vodka, lemon juice and sparkling wine. It was very strong!

There were a variety of salads and cold options available.

There was also hot sweetcorn chowder soup with crispy tortilla chips and a variety of other hot food options available as well.

These great dessert pots! I was a big fan of the strawberry shortcake ones.

If you also ever get the chance to dine downstairs, I highly recommend it. Sadly, it was closed for works today. Do get the salt and pepper squid - it's as every bit as good as people say.

It was then time for us to head to the gate.

And flying us over to Helsinki this evening is this Airbus A350-900, which was delivered to Finnair back in September 2016, making it nearly 10 years old. It still looks brand new in my opinion!

Finnair board Business Class passengers first through this dedicated lane and after a few minutes of waiting…

…we were down the airbridge and on our way to the aircraft.

The husband was in 8D.

And I was in 8H.

The AirLounge business class cabin is in a 1/2/1 seating layout, so the D/H seats are perfect for couples travelling together.

And the initial impression from the husband was a big thumbs up!

The legroom is really good and there's lot of space no matter what your size. My partner is 6ft 3" and even he said he couldn't reach the end of the seat/bed.

The AirLounge is unique in that it doesn't recline. The only moving part is where your legs go when you're sitting upright. This moves upwards with the right hand bit clicking into place creating a fully lie-flat surface.

And with that, we began our pushback from stand. I do love the A350 cameras!

There was me feeling like I was playing Flight Simulator and monitoring that centre line adherence!!

And after a rather long take-off roll, we were airborne.

Where the A350 is utilised on short-haul routings, you don't receive any of the additional perks like amenity kits, pre-boarding drinks or over ear noise cancelling headphones. You do get this small pair of in ear headphones, though.

The crew began their service with a hot towel. This smelt great!

And to relax even further I popped the moving part of the seat up so that I was essentially on one big chaise longue/bed.

When in Rome, the husband snuck in a 10 minute power nap before the meal service.

The drinks service followed shortly afterwards with the snack being a packet of salted pretzels. You know how I feel about these but at least these ones are more palatable than the sour cream and chive ones!

The husband went for a blueberry juice and Kyro Vodka, what a combo! All drinks are served in Finnair's signature glassware.

I had a brief glance over the IFE, and I'm always impressed about how responsive it is. It's touch screen enabled too…

…or if you prefer, you can use the IFE remote located in the storage cupboard behind the seat.

A quick check over the toilets and they were incredibly clean. I also love the feature window.

What a view!

The toilets are also stocked with amenities from Finnish-brand, SEES.

In the days before departure, Finnair prompted us to select our meals through the Finnair app or website. You had a great selection to choose from… See if you can guess what the husband and I went for!

The starter was a smoked fish salad with lemon mayonnaise, salad and cherry tomatoes.

For the husband, he pre-ordered the grilled chicken fillet with tomato yoghurt sauce, lentil rice and green beans. He said it was delicious although could have done with just a bit more sauce.

And for myself, I chose the game meat patty with liquorice sauce, mashed potatoes, turnip puree, carrots and brussels sprouts and it was HEAVENLY! Honestly, the game patty was just so moist and tnender, almost like a hamburger and that liquorice sauce was divine.

There was bread too, I opted for the white roll…

…and the husband the Finnish rye bread.

Tea and coffee were then served, I opted for a very strong Finnish coffee.

And then dessert followed shortly afterwards. It was a salted caramel and cardamom pastry bun. Very tasty but very sweet!

I then opted for a 20 minute power nap, too. It seems only fair and right to take advantage of this bed!

And as I woke up, we were approaching Helsinki. Quite a fast flight time today!

A very smooth landing, these A350 cameras coming into their own again!

Oh, and for his first time in the AirLounge, he was very complimentary about it! Hope you enjoyed the watch and read, and thanks as always. See you next week!
Finnair gives one of the best business medium haul in Europe .... they can give lessons to Air France ?
Any airline that does a fully lie flat seat in Europe gets my vote!
