After landing in last week on the Finnair Premium Economy leg from Helsinki, we decided a night in JFK's Terminal 4 wasn't for us, so booked this last minute hotel. One word = avoid.

It was then time to head over to LaGuardia. We had originally been booked onto the 10:00am flight but with the sad news of the recent Air Canada Express crash and the TSA funding crisis, it was bought forward to the 06:00am departure.

American Airlines is a major player at LaGuardia Airport with a 25% market share.

This was taken at 04:00am and LaGuardia was chaos! This was mainly caused by a combination of TSA staffing shortages, a prolonged Department of Homeland Security funding crisis, and wider operational strain across the U.S. aviation system.

We tried to use the kiosks to beat the queues but the automated AA check-in system was attempting to charge us for two bags when our booking already had them included.

We joined the Special Services queue which was moving very slowly. All things at this moment were pointing to us missing our flight over to DFW.

And as we were waiting, the TSA queue grew ever longer. Now at 90-odd minutes long!

Finally we were issued two boarding passes and managed to check our cases, the AA agent confirming it was indeed an error and the bags were included on the booking.

We raced through security as best we could and got to the other side.

I'd never been so happy to see the LaGuardia water feature, but no time for lounges or breakfast today, we sprinted across to the gate in order to get our flight.

Always a nice view out of the windows!

We made it to Gate 11 and boarding was just commencing. We were in boarding Group 7.

Many announcements were made as there were lots of missing passengers, likely stuck in the TSA backlog queue.

Our aged AA 737-800 having both the AA 100 Years branding and also the FIFA 26 World Cup sticker next to the forward door.

Here are our seats over the DFW, 18F and E, the window and middle.

Legroom was comfortable for the three and a bit hour journey across to Texas.

Nearing 06:00, our departure time, the flight deck did an announcement to say he had instructed American Airlines operations to take a 15-minute delay in the hope that some of the missing passengers made the flight. This proved vital and saved a lot of people the hassle and stress of re-booking onto a later flight.

As the sun rose, we started pushing back towards the runway.

And around 25 minutes behind schedule, we took off from LGA.

Into the cruise, I tried out AA's promised 'super fast' Wi-Fi. Being rather sceptical, imagine my surprise when I was getting 104Mbps download speeds. Well done AA. It's also interesting to note this is provided by Viasat and not Starlink, too.

AA also provide a wealth of on-demand content accessible via your phone or tablet. It's all free and you can even watch live TV like CNN or ESPN.

We got some beautiful blue skies on the way over to Dallas Fort Worth.

AA then started their onboard service. I opted for a complimentary coffee, served with creamer and sugar.

And every passenger received a AA 100 branded Lotus Biscoff biscuit.

It was then time to snag an hour or so of sleep considering we had gotten very little the night before. The seats were actually pretty comfy with really good lower back and neck support.

And as I woke up, we were in Texas and descending fast down towards Dallas. Anyone know the airport?

A nice view as we approached.

And with that, we were down. A pretty decent show from AA. Care, compassion and a relatively comfortable product. I'd happily take an AA domestic trip again, without question!
Thanks for sharing! Its looking stressful making any flight in the US right now, hopefully it settles... I've not been state-side since 2019!
Stress just didn’t cut it. I’m always at the airport early but a combination of a nationwide ‘strike’ and the fact that LaGuardia don’t open any check-in kiosks until 04:00am meant those who were on the earlier flights were hit the hardest. Fortunately though, we made it!
Thanks for this FR
A military airport near Mountain Creek Lake I think: Google Maps says nothing!!
Good shout! Thanks for the knowledge.
