Welcome back! On my flight back, I was hesitating if I should start from Macau or Hong Kong. But eventually I decided to start from Macau as it would give a clearer picture of my transit in Hong Kong. Macau was amazing, with great food and spectacular views/casinos, I had a very great time there. We stayed in Galaxy Hotel, and the interior of the hotel blew my mind away. Throughout my stay in Macau, I visited three hotels (Galaxy Macau, Venetian Macau and Studio City), and I was so impressed by all the hotels. Each hotel was grand and unique in their own way.
Okay I'm going off time to get back to the flight report.

I'll begin the report at here, the exterior harbour of Macau. It was a free bus ride from our hotel to the harbour, and the bus had free wifi so it was a pleasant ride.

Our ferry was the 3.15pm ferry leaving for HKIA, and we decided to take turbojet.

Immigration opened only 30minutes before the actual departure time of the boat as the waterside(?) ( because of airside get it hurhur) was really small.

our BIDS (Boat Information Display System) (because of FIDS get it hurhur) We would be leaving from Gate number 9!

Our boat is on the left! The gate area was filled with seats, and the space was quite small, which is understandable because we were only at there for 15minutes before leaving for the ship. Vending machines and toilets were available too.

After an hour of ship ride (with one small part being extremely uncomfortable), we have arrived in HKIA!
There is only carousel at skypier (the ferry terminal at HKIA). A few luggages (around 5) came out first, then it was a 10 - 15 minutes wait before the rest of the luggage came out. What was most frustrating was that the carousel would throw out 4 - 5 luggages, stop for 1 minute, then throw out another 4 - 5 luggages, stop, and the process repeats. Also, there were so many inconsiderate people who pushed the luggage all the way to right beside the carousel, hence making it hard for others to take their luggages too. Another thing that was weird as the departure tax refund. It is weird for us to get a piece of paper, clear customs and then get our tax refund when there is no way of us entering HK (the whole skypier is available only from the airside).
After a very long wait for our luggage, we checked in with SQ. The staff was nice and friendly. She tried to help us to get the three of us together but the flight was completely full. Not her fault, but it's worth commending her trying to help us. With this, off we were to HKIA!

And what must one do when in HKIA? That's right plane spotting!

The IFE. I was quite disappointed to be sitting in a plane with the 4:3 display but oh well I gotta give and take. Honestly I enjoyed this flight's entertainment system more than the A380's because 1) It was a lot more smoother and less laggy and 2) It did not crash on me.

The view this time was only SLIGHTLY better LOLOL

I felt that the seat pitch this time was better than the A330's?

SQ has finally updated their old B772 planes with a more updated flight map!!!! :D I was quite dreading this flight because of the flight map but I was actually quite happy to see that they have updated their flight map.
photo axHUkrr

Our plane took off at 8.11pm and I noticed that the B772 did not climb as fast as the other planes? It took us quite a while before the seatbelt sign went off… Hmmmm…. The night view was just meh because we did not fly past Victoria Harbour and soon we were in pitch darkness.

I must say that the crew this time was much better than my flight into SQ. They felt happier to be doing this flight, but it was still a bit robotic. The Chief Stewardess was a rather stern looking lady who barely smiled throughout the flight but at least she was courteous to her colleagues. I overheard her talking to another flight stewardess "My dear, can you please pass a set of earpiece to seat ___?" The Chief Stewardess also interacted with a few guests and even me (??!!) so I guess she maybe was not in a bad mood afterall.

Soon enough, our meals came. The options included
1) Beef Goulash (Beef stew with vegetables and Penne pasta) <- what I had
2) Wok fried sliced pork in sesame oil and button mushroom (with seasonal vegetable and steamed rice)
photo 2ZncbjF

Both dishes were meh not that bad but not that good either. It was better than the flight to HK though but something must be done to SQ's catering….
Dessert was Haagen Dazs strawberry flavour ice cream. Mysteriously the ice cream was not rock hard but was easily penetrable!
image

In the midst, I drank finish my water and decided to have a small walk. So I held the small plastic bottle that SQ gives and walked to the back alley and passed it to the FA's at the back who were eating to throw it away. Prior to this, I did read from online that the crew really have a hard time on all flights so I wanted to made their lives a bit simpler. The crew was busy eating and were quite shocked to see a teenager in front of them while they're eating. I passed to them my rubbish and requested for another water. I actually felt quite bad for them because they do not even have a place to sit and eat and had to always be looking out for passengers pressing the FA light… It's no easy work. Kudos to all the FAs' around the world!

I got thirsty again and seeing that both my parents were asleep, I decided to type down my request on my phone and showed it to the FA… This was what I got
photo rmpWrj2
A Singapore sling and a deck of cards! (I requested for the cards they did not give it to me voluntarily ;_; It is kind of weird that SQ still has the A330 as their playing cards cover? As far as I know SQ is already returning some of their A330's back to Airbus and come on we have the A350)

Closing to Changi.
photo N4rNhMH

Touchdown to Changi was uneventful and we docked at T3, gate A18 (if my memory did not fail me). The landing to gate process was so fast I was quite shocked when the pilot said "Cabin crew disarm doors". We touched down ahead of time at 11.22pm. Something worth noting was that the English announcements were made live, but the Mandarin version was recorded beforehand. Come on they could have used me to do the Mandarin announcements I studied HCL :( HAHAHAHA

A final view of 9V-SQK
photo f7PayAs

Immigration was literally deserted… I am starting to think if only Changi can do this LOL
A sculpture at Changi immigration.
photo KUKru2q

Another artpiece at one of the most beautiful airport in this world.
photo xnySBNt

And of course when we were at the carousel, our luggages were already out and off we were back home! Is this another feat that only Changi can do LOLOL

-
A few days after this report was posted, SQ368 had to make an emergency landing back to Changi. An oil leak at engine number 2 had caused the u-turn. Thankfully, all the passengers and crew escaped unscathed. SQ did a good job in handling this incident imho, because well, there were no casualties!
I'm actually glad that our constant practices for emergencies like this have paid off and kudos to the fire fighters (you all did a really good job respect to you all), the ATC, Changi, the FAs' of SQ368 for not panicking (if we see the FAs' panic I think we will all go bonkers) and the pilots of SQ368. Quoting a Mandarin 俗語 "不怕一萬, 只怕萬一", we have proved that. You guys really did a great job! Though this may never reach them HAHAHAHA

Conclusion

I'll be objective and mark the ratings based on how I feel
Singapore Airlines SQ871 B772ER 9V-SQK
Cabin: Definitely cleaner than on my way there.. But I found three sets of earpiece at the backseat pocket... Do I have 6 ears SQ?
Cabin Crew: More pleasant than my flight to HK.
Entertainment: Well they updated their IFE on this old plane so I have nothing much to complain. And my IFE did not crash!
Meal/Catering: SQ is losing out on this come on SQ provide us with proper food

Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok Airport/Skypier
Efficiency (based on skypier): Our luggage took forever to come out, and shooting out 3 -5 luggages then make us wait will not make it.
Access (based on Chek Lap Kok Airport): Easily accessible
Services (based on Departures Chek Lap Kok Airport): The departures definitely had more stuffs to do than arrivals.
Cleanliness (based on Departures Chek Lap Kok Airport): Very clean airport.

Singapore Changi Airport:
Efficiency: There was no queue at the immigration and carousel I have nothing to fault them.
Access: Easily accessible. I would go to the airport sometimes to chill (despite staying around 30 - 45mins away from the airport)
Services: Nothing much to talk about, but it was great.
Cleanliness: Clean airport!

Seat pitch in this 772ER is still 34" for SQ, but these planes won't be around for long. The 350s are primarily in to replace them first before the 330s.

Being an SQ frequent flyer in Y, a word of advice is always go for the Asian option on all their flights, regardless of port of departure. It has been a long standing fact that SQ western dishes are sub par in Y, exacerbated by a brunch or breakfast service.

    Nice review btw.

      Hi!
      Thanks for reading this report!
But I thought the A350s' are replacements for the A330s' first as they return to their lessor (which I believe is Airbus?)?
Yes I agree if I fly with SQ I'd go with the asian option from now on.
Thanks for the compliment I appreciate it! ^^

    Hello, thanks for the FR!

I remember reading a blog run by a former SQ flight attendant, and that she said that although all flights can be tough because of the expectations imposed by passengers onto Singapore Airlines flight attendants, flights between Singapore and Hong Kong tend to be the toughest, as passengers can sometimes be very harsh themselves. So it's nice that you spared them a thought by visiting the galley, as it might have had a more positive effect on their moods than one might think.

    Happy flying!
