In this report I will cover the return leg of my trip to Xiamen (XMN)
Same to the report of the first leg, I will also include the 1-hour connection flight from XMN to HKG in this report as well, as it is a very short flight.
The trip starts from Xiamen airport, when I arrive at the airport less than 3 hours before departure, the check-in counters were still closed.
People waiting for check-in
Roughly 2.5 hours before departure the check-in counters finally opened, but because so many people were waiting, it took me 20 minutes to get my boarding pass even in the priority check-in line.
Immigration and security check was cleared super fast, as there were not so many international flights depart XMN around this time of the day. And to my surprise they even have a priority line for Business and First class passengers for security check.
The lounge at XMN was a very basic lounge like so many other Chinese airports. Very limited food selections, I only had a coke zero in the lounge. I didn't bother to take a picture of the lounge.
Boarding started on-time. Once we took off, service started right away as it was a very short flight.
Fresh fruit and garlic bread.
Fish main course.
Arrived at HKG.
B-LAI This aircraft left the CX fleet a few days ago.
SQ A380
First stop, the Qantas Hong Kong Lounge, I haven't been there for a long long time.
Some Japanese curry with Chicken Karaage
There is a JL flight departing later so there are so many Japanese guests in the lounge, and the lounge is also serving some Japanese style food.
Next stop, the Pier J
An apple tart at the Wing J
Today's bird
Settled in my seat, a welcome drink was offered.
Bottle water, amenity kit and fast track card were handed out.
Service started with some nuts
As stated in my previous report, the dinner menu on this flight was exactly the same with CX812 I took in December 2017, you can view the menu and the report here.
Starter.
Some garlic bread.
Chicken breast. Very delicious.
Fruit and cheese. I really like to have cheese with some grapes but no grapes were offered on this flight.
Dessert. Chocolate Mousse. Upon my observation, I think quality for the dessert has declined dramatically on CX this year, in 2016 CX started to introduce 2 choices of dessert on long haul flight, but what's the point to have 2 bad desserts?
After the meal service I turned the seat into a bed and had a very good sleep. But sadly I missed the breakfast.
We were assigned on a holding pattern before landing in SYD due to bad weather.

Conclusion
Overall still a very CX style flight. Good business class seat, okay meal, crews were friendly but not really interactive.

Thanks for sharing! Your impressions of CX seems to be the general consensus there days: Good seat and ok catering, but nothing great. Love the QF lounge in HKG. If flying in J, it's probably better than the Wing J section next door.
Hi KevinDC, Yeah, I think CX business class product is kind of lack that extra sort of experiences you want to have in Business Class. The Wing definitely needs a renovation if CX still wants to promote it as their flagship lounge. I rarely go there now unless I have flight departing from Gate 1-4.
