Greetings Flight-Report Community!
This flight report will cover the return flight of my quick trip to US east coast. I took CX889 from JFK to HKG via YVR.
I will also share some pictures I took while I was in New York at the end of the report.
The flight departs at 8:40PM so I tried to get a late check-out for my hotel room to 4PM but because it was holiday season so they only extended to 2PM for me. I did't have anything planned for the day so although it's still quite early, I decided to go to the airport. BTW the traffic was so bad in NY, even it was 2PM in the day it still took me 90 minutes to get to JFK from midtown Manhattan, and it cost me USD$90 by Uber, which is kind of expensive as I am a solo traveler. That time I really thought it would be nice for CX if they offer Limo service for their business and first class pax as some of other airlines.
Although it took me quite a while to get to JFK, it's still too early for check-in. And I found there was no space for passengers to sit and wait for their flight opens at T8.
CX check-in space at JFK T8.
Business class check-in. I think they are missing OneWorld Ruby which is also entitled to Priority check-in.
Luckily, a CX staff showed up at the check-in counter 5 hours before the flight so I actually didn't wait for too long.
As usual, security check took quite a while. After the security check I headed to the Flagship lounge by AA.
Entrance. I liked their design.
I didn't take any photo of the lounge as it was so so so crowed at that time. I couldn't even find an empty seat. It seems that domestic passengers can also access the lounge (I'm not sure, can someone tell me if you know)
Food option is also quite limited, I'm not sure if I actually missed the main buffet area.
I also used the shower room.
I headed to the gate area 1 hour before boarding. It was very chaotic as they had a gate change, and the signage didn't arrive until minutes before boarding so many pax just crowd at the gate area.
On this flight I was sitting at 11A, in the mini cabin of only 8 seats. I will insert photos of the seat later in the report.
To YVR first.
Manhattan.
Dinner was served soon after take-off. There was no drink or nuts service.
Fish main dish.
It was very tasty.
I was sleepy at that time so I turned my seat flat and had a very good sleep until landing.
China Airlines A350 parked next to us.
For passengers going to HKG, you will stay on-board. Cabin-crew will come to check if YVR pax took all their bags out of the overhead bins.
Just over 10000 KMs to HKG.
Supper service. This hasn't changed for years!
For supper service I will grab white rolls to dip.
Lamb main course. Very very tender and delicious.
A close look.
Cheese plate.
I then took another sleep and woke up somewhere over the Pacific.
Burgers. This burger is much better than the one I had on CX812.
A picture of the seat. I really like CX business class seat, very functional, You can easily access your belongings or your drink even in bed mode.
Another cheese plate with an ice-cream and a hot chocolate.
Is that actually a Gelato?
Ambient light turned on.
Breakfast was served after we passed Japan.
Start with an OJ and a smoothie.
Fresh fruit.
Main course.
The congee was very good.
Some carrot cake.
Finish up with another hot chocolate.
Seat control panel.
Ready for landing.
A picture of the seat after landing.
The arrival lounge at Hong Kong.
Overall the flight was good. Catering on this fight was excellent, much better than average CX standard. Service was efficient but not very friendly, which was a small downside of this flight. I had a great sleep during the flight.
Some pictures I took in NYC.
Sushi Nakazawa. That ebi piece was amazing! I had two!
Intercontinental New York Barclay.
One World Trade Centre
Wall Street.
NYSE. I guess as a trader you have to visit this place!
Statue of Liberty
Manhattan Sky Line. Amazing.
Time Square
Some paintings at MET.
Thank you for reading!
Hi Rays, thanks for sharing this return report.
"It seems that domestic passengers can also access the lounge (I'm not sure, can someone tell me if you know)"
- No. domestic passengers never have lounge access in the U.S. Access to the Flagship lounge is restricted to International Business and First class (and premium transcon) passengers and oneworld sapphire and emerals status holders. This still makes for a crowded lounge. For domestic passengers who have lounge access through credit cards or Admirals club memberships, they get access to the "regular" Admirals club next door, not the flagship lounge.
"Catering on this fight was excellent, much better than average CX standard."
- That is surprising for catering ex-US! Good to hear.
CX is coming to Washington Dulles this fall and I'm looking forward to having them at my home airport! Especially with an A350-1000
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Rays. thanks for sharing but more than 21hour flight seems to be quite a very long haul : I dont know any aircraft who could do that !
I think he did mention in the report that this flight makes a stop at Vancouver.
