Review of Eurowings flight Hamburg → Düsseldorf in Economy

During my stay in Hamburg, I decided to make a one day trip to Düsseldorf. I brought the ticket from Eurowings website in late November as the fare was quite reasonable to me. Eurowings provides 3 kinds of fares. BASIC fare is simply a budget fare. SMART fare is similar to the economy class of full service carrier, including a 23kg check luggage, snacks and drinks. Finally, BEST is the premium fare for mostly the business traveller. This time I purchased the BASIC fare which served my purpose. Also, one reason for me to choose Eurowings was that I can also accrue miles to ANA mileage club. In this report, I will cover both the flight from Hamburg to Dusseldorf and the return flight as well.

Hamburg→Düsseldorf

At 7:18am in the morning, I arrived at Hamburg airport. Since I did not have any check baggages, I went directly to air-side. The gate was asigned at A37 which is located at one end of the terminal.

Boarding started at 7:59am. There was no airbridge connecting to the aircraft, I needed to walk downstairs to the apron to broad the plane. This was fine for me as I had the chance to take some photos on the apron. This was my plane to Düsseldorf. A320-200, D-AEWG, with the "Göteborg/Visit Sweden" sticker. But today we were not flying to Sweden…The plane was delivered to Eurowings on 18th May 2016, so it is just 1.5 years old.

I am seating at 21A so it was better for me to board from the rear door.

At 8:19am, pushback was started.

Seat pocket items. Very soon, the flight attendants started to roll out the cart, but I didn't plan to purchase any snacks or drinks for such a short flight. The rest of the flight was uneventful and 20 minutes after takeoff the seatback sign was on again. We were descending into Düsseldorf airport.

Eventually we landed on RWY23L at 9:07am. Total flight time was 40 minutes.

After the sightseeing in the city for a whole day, I returned to the airport at 19:20pm.

The counter were nearly empty.

I printed out my boarding pass at one of the machine. Although I have already chosen my seat (21A) during online check in, I designed to change seat to the front (11A). The boarding time for my flight would be 20:15pm.

After I got my BP, I went straight through the security check in no time and headed to the gate. At 20:07pm, there was an announcement that the flight was delay due to late arrival of the aircraft. Boarding was started at 20:40pm but the automatic gate was not functioning properly so the process was switched to manual operation.

My seat 11A at the exit row, apparently the legroom was more than the seat in the morning flight.

At 21:16pm, we took off from RWY23L.

Obviously this aircraft was an ex-Air Berlin aircraft, so the safety card was still with Air Berlin logo. At 21:46pm, the announcement of the commence of descend was made and the cabin was darkened for landing.

At 22:00pm we touch-down on Hamburg airport and parked at a remote gate, then we were transported to the terminal by bus.
