Review of Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to Munich in Economy

Hello everyone! Welcome to last part of the March 2026 trip from Munich to Taipei. This part will cover the flight from Hong Kong to Munich with Cathay Pacific Airways.

I arrived at the airport at 23:00pm, roughly 2 hours before departure. I had already received the boarding pass in the morning in Taipei Taoyuen Airport, so I just needed to check my luggage at those counters. The baggage tag was printed from a machine and I sticked them to my luggage. The system was not fully automated and everything had to be done by myself, though there were some ground staff assisted you if you had any trouble. 

I went through the security check and immigration without any issue, and then I went to the sky bridge for some plane spotting.

Terminal 1 overview.

1. Thai Airways A320, HS-TXD to Bangkok as TG603 in the morning.
2. Cathay Pacific Airways A321neo, B-HPT to Fukuoka as CX528 in the morning.
3. Easter Jet B737-8, HL8759 to Seoul Incheon as ZE862.

My plane to Munich, Airbus A350-900, B-LQE delivered to Cathay Pacific Airways in September 2020.

Tonight we departed from gate 27 of terminal 1. Boarding groups were divided by 1 to 7. 

At 0:26am, boarding began and I was in group 6. It really took a while until my group was called.

My seat 40A, the first row of the economy class with ample leg room. Unfortunately the neighboring seats were occupied so I was not able to take proper pictures…

Monitor was mounted on the partition wall in the front.

Seat pocket items were located in the front.

Remote control was stored underneath the armrest.

Boarding was completed at 0:47am. A few minutes later, our captain came on PA and announced the flight time to be 12 hours and 22 minutes. Followed by the safety demonstration video.

Catering menu was handed to us.

Pushback was eventually initiated in 1:01am.

While we were taxiing to the runway, the cabin light was dimmed with mood lighting.

At 1:33am, we lifted off from runway.

8 minutes later, cabin light was turned on again. Then I continued with the rest of the Anaconda movie.

Seat belt sign was turned off and I received a bottle of water from the crew.

At 2:02am, I finished the Anaconda movie and immediately start watching the next one, Predator: Badlands.

15 minutes later, dinner was served. I opted for the roasted duck and conpoy rice with lotus leaf, which was extremely delicious. I had an orange juice for the drink.

After dinner, I slept for an hour and 45 minutes. Woke up at 4:53 am, we were flying over northwest China.

Half an hour later, I visited the lavatory. After I finished the movie at 5:46 am, I took a nap again. This time I managed to slept for 2 hours and 20 minutes.

The sun began to rise.

I quickly switched to the flight map and found that we were reaching the western part of Kazakhstan.

Then I went to the back galley and looked for some food. There were some snacks and drinks available.

I got myself an egg tart which is a famous local food in Hong Kong, and a coke. 

At 8:30am, I start watching another local movie, Golden Boy.

I went to the lavatory again in the middle of the movie. By the time I finished the movie at 10:06am, we were flying over Azerbaijan, somewhere very close to Georgia.

I looked out of the window, and there wasn't much changes.

At 10:20am, I watched another movie, The Running Man. 10 minutes after the started of movie, I fell asleep, but woke up again 40 minutes later. Then I continued with the movie.

The sky was getting brighter by the time I woke up.

15 minutes later I visited the lavatory again.

At 11:45am, cabin light was turned on again with some mood lighting.

At 11:54am, breakfast was served. I opted for the Chinese dim sum with fried noodles.

Definitely a Hong Kong style milk tea.

After the breakfast service, the ceiling light on two sides were dimmed.

At 13:18pm, our captain provided the latest information that we were 160 miles east of Munich. We expected to touch down at 7:55am local time. Approximately 30 minutes to landing.

I switched to the top camera view while we were flying over the city of Munich.

Landing gears were deployed.

Seconds before touch down.

At 7:53am, we landed on 08R of Munich Airport. Total flight time was 12 hours and 20 minutes.

We parked at gate 110 of terminal 1.

Total flight route. We flew through China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, Hungary, Austria and finally Germany.
