Welcome to this trip-report of Lufthansa Business class onboard the B747-400 Lufthansa currently has 13 B747-400 in their fleet which is all to be retired by 2025 with replacing aircraft being the B777X. There are 2 variants of the 747, one with more business class seats with fewer economy seats and one with less business class and more economy class. Both the variants have a premium economy class cabin. Since then the B747 is replaced by the A340-300
Flight routing

We arrived at Detroit airport(DTW) well before the departure time to take full advantage of the complimentary lounge access.
American airports are quite simple but efficient and clean. some pictures of the airport from outside.

Like most airlines , Lufthansa has a separate check-in for business class passengers. This also includes separate check -in for First class passengers. The check-in was fast and efficient

The very small international terminal of Detroit.

These departure board was very high and very difficult to read but luckily the boards are alphabetically ordered , or else……

The very vibrant boarding pass

The gates side of the terminal after immigration. A few restaurants were there in the terminal

The wonderful queen of Lufthansa

I visited the Lufthansa lounge. Lufthansa has its own lounge in Detroit that they operate. IT is located very close to the gate, therefore making it easy to get to it. The food options were limited but it as sufficient.

An Air Canada Express plane probably going to somewhere in Canada (Not obvious at all)

The gate and boarding

The business class cabin of the lower deck located in the nose of the plane

My seat for this flight was seat 4D which in my opinion is the worst seat of all. It is located in the centre of the cabin and it is the single seat with no neighbour behind , forward and In the sides. The seat has this awkwardness in my opinion. Don't mind me , for some people it may feel like first class.
Anyway, There was a soft pillow waiting for me at the seat.

There were drinks placed to which you can do self service.

The seat had a IFE screen which was fairly large and responsive. There was also space below the seat to keep a bag. There was also a coat hook.

They also gave headphones that I did not use a lot.

As I was seated in the middle seat , there are no take-off pictures. Meal service started soon after . IT was a 2 course meal with appetizers and main course. I ordered the vegetarian meal so this is not the standard meal offered in their business class.

They also gave desert. It was ice cream for this flight

There wasn't anything else to report about. We landed on time . Some pictures of Frankfurt airport.

Departure board in Frankfurt

Thank you for reading this trip-report. I know there wasn't much to this trip-report because Lufthansa is very dry and boring these days. Their quality is not industry standards. Please check out some other trip-reports of mine like:

In any case, I would prefer LUFTHANSA to all American airlines for long-haul flights always.
Flying with any Amrican airline is a real challenge - in all classes.
In international comparison, LH can learn from SQ on all sectors.
In Economy for sure, but in long-haul Premium Economy and Business, U.S. carriers often offer better products. LH's 2-2-2 configuration in J is not competitive these days, while U.S. carriers feature a 1-2-1 configuration affording direct aisle access on most long-haul flights. Once LH introduce their new J cabin, LH will surely offer a better product once again, but for the time being, they do not. Personally, I think LH's 5-star rating is based almost entirely on their First class service, which is worthy of 5 stars.
Hey there
reading your report it seems that LH first service it's very average. I really agree with Sotto comment (the first commentary of this report) about comparing with other airlines. If you compare AA with LH, theres a world of differences beteeen both carriers. And there's a universe between american/european airlines and asian/middle eastern ones. Last years, they marked a trend in terms of their in ground/on air service.
I totally accept free LH first class tickets, by the way haha

G.
