Hello Everyone,
This is a trip report of Hawaiian Airlines HA 47 Economy class flight from Oakland to Honolulu for a wedding in Jun 2021.
We arrived bright and early at Oakland Airport waiting to depart at 8:30am. Unfortunately, Oakland Airport is not all that friendly for planespotting. Because of the design of the gate area, we could not see our Airbus A321NEO parked at the gate.
Our boarding time came and went and there was an announcement at the gate that the flight was delayed for 4 hours because of crew rest requirements. Apparently the flight that came in the night before from Honolulu was late and so that means that this flight back to Honolulu could not leave until the crew got their minimum crew rest time.
Found my seat 38J towards the back of the plane. Seat colors look nice. Leg room was not great but adequate.
Shortly after takeoff and you can see downtown Oakland. Too bad I did not sit on the left side of the plane as the view of San Francisco would have been awesome. Oh well, next time.
Left the coast of California and headed down to Honolulu.
Some time later the flight attendants served us a meal. Unfortunately the offerings were a bit underwhelming.
The sandwich tasted bitter and burnt.
The granola breakfast bite tasted nasty.
Finally the famous Honolulu cookie.
Oahu finally appeared and we were on our descent. Too bad there was a lot of clouds. The scenery would have been awesome on a clear day. A nice touch was that the flight attendant gave us passengers a nice commentary of the different points of interest on the island of Oahu. You can listen to the commentary on Youtube.
The discerning eye can see Pearl Harbor towards the upper right.
Making a right downwind turn to line up with runway 8L.

Very cool to see a review on the Hawaiian A321neo! The cabin looks really nice and comfortable--just missing seatback IFE, but streaming is fine, especially with tablet holders. Too bad the food was burnt, but I'll give HA credit for offering a meal on this route considering most other carriers don't offer any free food on the shorter West Coast Hawaii routes.
Thanks for sharing!
A bit disappointing that HA didn't order their new A321s with PTVs...a sign of the times it seems. The catering snafu also makes one reconsider if HA would be a sensible choice to Hawaii...
