TRANSIT AT GUANGZHOU


Routing

  • CZ368 Ho Chi Minh City - Guangzhou A320 Coming soon

After my dad and I steppd off the previous China Southern A320 that took us from Ho Chi Minh City as CZ368 earlier the day, we then headed to the Transit Area. In general, the flight was around 2 hours, so a bit of a short-medium flight, but thankfully, everything went smooth and pleasant, while that made the journey comfortable. 

(All times in this story will be CST - China Standard Time)

After we disembarked, we headed to CAN/ZGGG's Terminal 2 transit are. Launched in early 2019, it was as well my first time in fact actually vising this new Terminal. While it was 12:03 CST, there wast much of an intrnational arrval flight demnd, so immigration was simple. After immigration, we were then succesfully able to enter the Domestic Secuity Area, where we went through security. After we passed securty, it was all great, as our flght to Chongqing would only pushbak at 15:10, so there was plenty time to chill and rest around ZGGG.

AIRSIDE CAN/ZGGG


As mentioned, after we passed immigrations and security to enter the Domestic Area, we still had about 2 hours to chill, so since it was lunch, we definitely prefereed to get some lunch first, given that CAN-CKG is a short flight, while it isnt diner time as well, so there wasnt clarity on if catering would be served, and off we go, quickly, we found an local noodle shop at ZGGG selling fresh Ramen and we enjoyed it after eating an breakfast onboard CZ368 at 10 CST and it is nearly 14 CST.

After the quick refreshment of noodles, we strolled to our Gate back to ZUCK, and during the way, I actually was able to stroll around the Domestic B251-B260 concourse and catch a range of oher aircrafts. 

From this flight scheldule, you can definitely feel how CZ has an such majority demand and influence at CAN! Sadly the covid-wave from 2020 has stopped this, and till now, the whole Chinese aviation operates with 30-40% flight in comparson to pre-pandemic daily levels. What an shame of the policies unfortunatly. :(

After a quick spotting session, I made it to my dad's sittng area at CZ/OQ2318's Gate, and there, I was able to spot the aircraft operating this flight - A320NEO - Bravo - 302 Juliet. (B-302J). It was my first time flying on an A320NEO, so I was actually abit excited espicially when I just got off the A320CEO, hoping to see the difference.

Good things always come to an end. Thats true. It was finally time for me to leave Guangzhou, and head back to my hometown - Chongqing,not knowing whn to comeback. And thats true. It is is nw 2022, and it is still not clear whe ould China reopen. Maybe 2028? Lets hope not too much longer.

OQ2318's Gate departure was 15:10, with therefore the ETD would be 15:20. With no surprise with Chinese passenger's general ZERO rule following, boarding took as long as it could. Luckily, perhaps I took the right turn ad time to select the front seats that are always blocked and priced, my dad and I was able to board early at 14:30 CST, while the priority boarding started around 14:20/14:25, 50 mins before the pushback time.

Immediately after boarding, the A320NEO has sure amazed me. It included the CFMI LEAP-1A and WL, and as well an modern interior. Actually even an USB plug.

PUSHBACK & TAXI & DEPARTURE


Pushback occured at 14:59 CST, 11 mins before the sceldule states. I foun this quiet interesting because normally, at Chinese airport, since the majorty of airspaces are controlled by the Chinese PLA Air Force, they often have tons of military activities, so therefore, an specific word for a delay appears: 流控, so I was pretty amazed 流控 didnt occur on the flight. As soon we began pushing, the famous PTU and CFMI LEAP-1A begn to start, and the sound of them linking is pretty great to hear.

At around 15:00, after 1 mins of push, we reached on the Taxiway. That was when the famous China Southern Airlines safety began to play as well. I though since this is Chongqing Airlines, a major carrier owned by China Southern, it should say "欢迎乘坐重庆航空“, but instead, it was funny to hear it say "欢迎乘坐中国南方航空“, well, if passengers are not familar with the 2 carriers, they will definiely be panicking and thoughting "OMG DID I get to the wrong gate and wrong airline?". Anyways, this has always remained an laughter in the Chinese aviation community and I was finaly able to experience it. 



At 15:05, we finally began taxing, and since ZGGG is a pretty large airport, during the taxing, I was definitely able to catch alot ofreat aircrafts.
My biggest catch was probably Air China's 747-400, which is the 2 remainn, and used to be used by Mr. Xi Jinping to conduct foreign visits when the 747-8 was not purchased by Air China yet. However, it is definitely an pleasure to be able to capture an ex-part time presidental jet.



At 15:20 CST, just 10 mins delayed, we safely lifeted off from ZGGG heading to our destination - ZUCK.

Sadly it was an polluted haze afternon at ZGGG. Chinese government as an developing country still has a long jourey to go in restrciting pollutions.

Climb * CRUIse * descent


In general, after we departed, only it was a haze day for tbe local community, other than that, the A320 and flght was perfectly well. We climbed 2/3 layers of clouds, which I believe are definitely were the haze clouds. Poor local Guanzghou citzens on that day. Luckily, after the 2/3 layers, all was good. We no longer had polluion but instead since it was close to the atmosphere, it was endless of clear skies which was gorgeous.

B-302J reached cruing levvel at around 15:35/15:40, and which then, the crew stepped up and began seving everyone a afternoon bun, called 包子。Personally, I didnt enjoy it as it was too dry and not crispy. Maybe it is manufatored at Guangdong and if its manufactored in the North like Beijing or the other North regions it would've tasted much better.

DESCENT & ARRIVAL


After the quick 包子 was served, I took a break with around still 40/50 mins left into arrival, and suddenly around 16:30, there was an slight tubulence, and I felt a bit of an rollar coaster, but it wsnt that bad, then before I got clear, it was time to descent. Personally, I wouldnt disagree that Chongqing is a fog/cloud/mountain city, becaue those were the only 3 things visible in the descent, while only we were on short final for ZUCK, more buildings and the Chongqing CBD began to appear, but no suprise, even the CBD is located above and surrounded by plenty mountains.  The descent was smooth, and the 1.5 hours journey came to an end with a fare butter arrival.  



AHA! Noticed that image? It so spectular and represents Chongqing so well! Even Jiangbei Airport -CKG/ZUCK's built on an high mountain hill! Well done Chonqing! I feel pride to be an local Chongqing buddy with the next-level arthictures in this city!

Anyways, we succesfully touched down at 17:03 CST.
Arrived at Stand 347 at 17:11.

The shut down of the CFMI LEAP-1A also marks another successful trip of B-302J buddy.

Conclusion

Hey guys, after I last posted an trip report in Feb 2021, I've came back. Its now October 2021. Yep. Lots of things changed, however, things has settled down, so I will now be expecting to post more trip reports frequently! Cheers.

Personall, I think that it is definitely a great choice to try out these local carriers such as Chongqing Airlines, which is a subsidary of China Southern Airlines because everything is diffrent, as well, I personall prfer ZGGG over ZUCK mor beause ZUCK is a bit too large, while there are tons of empty Gates,and zero access to any fast-express elevators, so it actually took me and my dad 15-20 mins to walk from around the furthest to the arrival area. I hope in 2030 onwards when China is open, I will revisit ZUCK and this issue wont appear anymore.

    Thanks for sharing. Nice to see a report on OQ as they are pretty rare in general. Good to see USB power on these newer aircraft. Snack looks pretty decent for a 1.5h flight.

      Yes haha. Chongqing Airlines is definitely an rare one out. It pre-pandemic operated few Asia destinations from its base-Chongqing, however, from early 2020, despite the pandemic and China's restrcitions, the international services has to be suspended. However, despite Chonging's international demand, there is still not much people travelling internationally, therefore, their international routes are much standing on the half-half lie. I've previous posted another trip reporting about the Chongqing Airlines journey from CKG to SGN, and you can view how empty is the aircrafts of OQ when its comes to international routes.

    That was when the famous China Southern Airlines safety began to play as well.

    OQ is a decent sized airline, it’s surprising they don’t have their own safety recording and their own catering. The catering look light for a flight of this length in China (crazy to say based on what the rest of the world gets in Y), only a baozi and banana?

    I feel pride to be an local Chongqing

    Chongqing and Sichuan are both beautiful areas with the diversity in topology of its landscapes.

    Thanks again for sharing this look at OQ. Like most of the smaller regional carriers, FRs are rare to see on here.

    1) Yep haha. Guanghou - Chongqing is 1hr 40 mins, but sine OQ2318 was between 15-17pm, and not through any lunch/dinner time, a 肉包子, banana and mineral water is already a treat.

    2) Yeah. OQ is a subsidary of CSN and eerything from its flight number, CZ2818, safety ideo, Crew are all related with China Southern. It is definitely pretty rare on the web also, as espiially on Youtube, or flight-report itself, OQ doesn't seem to appear unfortunately. OQ only flies to SIN at the moment.
