Brother & Sister trip to NYC
Hello everyone,
I decided to take my Sister to NYC as she was in need of a holiday; my Mum was to come too however had an accident the week prior and fractured her foot so was staying at home! I used some Avios (25,000 each and only £50 tax each for one way); I was excited to fly BA longhaul as it had been a while however things didn't go to plan during this trip.
On leaving Glasgow the previous day, we had an ATC delay so the aircraft arrived late. Once onboard, we pushed back and had a further delay due to a "technical fault" and parked at a remote stand. Our connection time at LHR was getting shorter. On arrival we had a delay getting my Sisters wheelchair and were told to use an airport wheelchair and it would be transferred to the BA113. Unfortunately, when we tried to pass through connections, we were advised to go to Customer Service and were advised no other connections available tonight despite being only 4pm and that we would have to stay in a hotel in London and leave the following morning.
We waited around an hour in the baggage area at T5 while waiting on the wheelchair and were finally on a HotelHoppa bus to the hotel. On arrival at the hotel it took another hour before we had a room - disappointing start to the trip.
Anyway, we arrived early (and tired) at Terminal 5 the next morning for the BA175 to JFK. The only bonus was that we would be flying on one of British Airways newest 777-300ERs, G-STBP delivered in January 2021.
Boarding views:

The flight was rather full however the middle seat remained empty which was good.
We were on our way a few minutes behind schedule.

Next to line up on 27L at Heathrow.

And climbing into the dull skies above London.

Finally on our way to one of my favourite cities.

Aviation Gin & Tonic to settle in for the flight across the Atlantic.

View from the rear of the cabin.

Crew were really friendly throughout the flight and helpful with my sister's needs.
I forgot pictures of the main meal however was the standard chicken or pasta. I'm sure it was an Indian chicken curry with rice which was pretty good, decent portion size with a proper desert (take note KLM).
Nearing land again.

Pre-arrival snack. Chicken pastry and some coffee.

Approaching JFK.

Hi KLM777300ER, thank you for sharing this BA777300ER FR!
Rough start to the trip having to get rebooked to the next day. The BA service looks to be back into full swing, generous with drinks and the catering is pretty much spot on to what I'd seen pre-COVID. The BA cabins are always quite tasteful with good adjustable headrests, and this newer cabin is nicer than the previous generation with larger IFE and expanded charging options. No snacks were offered mid-flight?
Excellent aerials of LHR and on arrival in JFK. Thanks again for sharing!
Cheating on AF/KL! How Naughty ?
Very nice report with great pics as always! I love the look of the new cabins. Would really like to see the F cabin with doors as they are mostly just found on these newer 77W at the moment.
Thanks for sharing!
Haha thanks Kevin! I was certainly punished for my unloyal behaviour!?
Hello there!
I'm so sorry to hear about your mother's accident. I hope she's recovering well!
I hope your stay in NYC made up for all this unpleasantness!
That's one beautiful, modern cabin!
Gee, according to that map I've just been killed in a volcano eruption! lol Well, there was a little tremor some days ago. It might be related.
That's a nice view. Neat and tidy!
Oh!! Chilean wine?! I see BA are reaching for nothing but excellence! haha You can have it all. I don't like wine. ;D
Take note Latam!
Thank you very much for sharing. I tip my hat to a good brother who cares for his sister.
Fernando here.
Thanks for your kind comments Fernando! Hopefully you have still managed to avoid the volcano ?
No worries. We like to play Floor is lava ?
