Hello everyone, welcome to my new series from Munich to Hong Kong. This time I am flying with Thai Airways and is also my first time to fly with this airline. I purchased the ticket just one week before the flight, so it was quite expensive. The first two flights to Hong Kong were booked in FULL FLEXI while the two flights back to Munich was in FLEXI fare.

On the day of the flight, I arrived at the airport at 12:18pm. The check-in counters were located on the first floor. There were so many people queuing up to check their luggage. They opened 6 check-in counters and two of them were assigned for baggage drop for those who had internet checked in.

I completed the online check-in the night before and had my boarding pass stored already in my mobile phone, so I was queuing up for those 2 counters.

At the end it took me about 30 minutes to check my baggage. Then I headed immediately to the security check and the immigration. Luckily there were very few people and I was through in 15 minutes. My gate was at H38.

Singapore Airlines A350 9V-SMC was about to depart to Singapore as SQ327. Nice to see the Lufthansa A380 back in the remote bay.

My ride today to Bangkok. Thai Airways A350-900XWB, HS-THN delivered in May 2018. She carries the name Khiri Rat Nikhom. As of August 2023, Thai Airways operates a total of 14 A350-900XWB in their fleet.

Another Lufthansa A350-900 D-AIVC. In the afternoon, she will operate flight LH474 to Montreal.

When I arrived at the gate H38 there were lots of people waiting. By the time I purchased the ticket, there were only a few seats left for selection and I knew that flight was going to be full.

Boarding started at 13:55pm.

My seat 48A. This is the last row in the first section of the economy class. 32 inches seat pitch and 18 inches seat width. There are a total of 321 seats, in which 289 of them are economy seats.

Cabin during boarding. Economy class is in 3-3-3 configuration.

One of the downside of the seat is the close proximity to the lavatory.

View outside my window.

Back of the economy seat. The 11-inch touch screen monitor was showing some sort of Thailand promotional video during boarding. There was also a remote control under the screen. However, no cup holder at the seat back.

Footrest is available.

Pillow, blanket and earphone were placed in advance on the seat.

At 14:15, we were informed that the flight duration would be 10 hours and 10 minutes and would expect some turbulence from time to time. About 8 minutes later boarding was completed and the IFE was then available. The welcome screen was showing the flight and seat number.

Safety demonstration video was then followed on the screen.
At 14:40pm, we pushback from the gate.

The tail camera is one of the best features of the A350.

Taxing to runway.

Entering runway for take-off

At 14:52pm we lifted off from RWY26L finally.

Minutes after takeoff, we made a 180° turn and headed towards east.

15 minutes after takeoff, seat belt sign was switched off. Soon, the onboard WI-FI, Thai SKY CONNECT was available. The system is provided by Panasonic.

I tried to connect my phone and check the price. There were three options and I took the unlimited Chatting option of US$7.99. It really took a while for the payment. The connection was not perfect, it disconnected very often, but still managed to send out and receive messages which I think is a good deal considering the duration of the flight.

At 15:15pm, I started the first movie of the flight, John Wick. During this trip, I decided to do a John Wick marathon.

50 minutes into the flight, lunch was served. I was quite surprised that snacks and refreshment were not provided. There were two options and I took the Stir fried chicken Holy Basil option. I appreciated the idea of including a bottle of water together on the tray. The meal was really great and very delicious. Cutlery were in plastic instead of metal.

By the time I was having the lunch, we just reached Romania.

I was waiting a long time for the drink service. 20 minutes after the meal was served the beverage cart arrived. Anyway, I had a cup of coffee.

Soon we were leaving Bulgaria into Black Sea. The coastline could be clearly seen below.

Winglet of the Thai Airways A350-900

At 17:20pm, I finished the first movie and I switched over to the flight map. We were reaching Türkiye, closed to Trabzon.

Half an hour later, we were about to fly into Iran, but the visibility down there wasn't good and I could hardly see anything below.

Normally the Inflight menu can be checked through the IFE but it wasn't available on this flight.

The duty free was also not available.

At 18:02pm, I continued with the John Wick: Chapter Two movie

By this time, the sun began to set.

I was getting thirsty and apparently not sure if the cabin attendant would deliver any drink service, so I pressed the service button. Very soon one of them came and had already some water bottles with her. Without saying anything, she knew what I wanted. At 19:02pm, I visited the lavatory behind me.

About an hour later, the crew was passing by with some drinks on her tray and I grabbed an orange juice. After that she was coming back again and passing water bottles to passengers.
By the time I finished my second John Wick movie, I checked the flightmap again, and we were flying above Pakistan. About 4 and half hours to Bangkok.

Passing through east of Jaipur.

At 21:38pm, I start watching John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum

About one hour 20 minutes later. visited the lavatory again at the back.

There was a cologne in this lavatory.

The aft galley. The crews were busy preparing the breakfast service.

Once I returned to my seat, the cabin light was gradually turned on at 23:05pm.

At 23:20pm, breakfast was served as we were flying over Bay of Bengal. There was only one choice without other option and it was a western style. With Sausage, egg and potatoes, there was also a croissant, some fruits and yogurt.

I opted for an orange juice for the complementary drink. Again, it took about 25 minutes to get the drink.

As we were getting close to Myanmar. There was a bit of turbulence and the seat belt sign was turned on.

At 0:30am, announcement from cockpit that we were descending into Bangkok and 30 minutes to landing.

The sky was getting brighter.

Minutes before landing.

I switched over to the tail camera to have a better view of the approach.

At local time 5:54am, we touch down on runway 19L. Total flight time was 10 hours and 2 minutes.

We flew through Austria, Hungary, Romania, Türkiye, Iran, Pakistan, India, Myanmar and finally Thailand.

Exiting the runway.

At last, we parked at gate E3.

Hi NGD,
Seems the A350 product is definitely much better than the ones on their 777 which is very outdated. There are some huge adjustments still needed for THAI to become the airline they used to be, but it seems they're somewhat going into the right direction, which I'm loving to see.
Considering you took the seat in the aft, how was the recline on them?
Thanks for sharing!
Hi ThomasDutch,
Thanks for your comment. I hope that the are on the right track to get back to normal, considering they almost went bankrupt during Covid time, if I remember correctly. Regarding your question about the seat reline, since the girl seating in front of me did not recline her seat, I was very comfortable and did not notice any problem with the recline.
