So my week in the District flew by, and it was time to go back to Madrid-.
My plan was to leave after lunch ( so I wouldn't have to rush in an expected hangover) and have enough time to transit from Terminal 8 to Termina 7 in JFK, and that way experience the new signature lounge. The name of the game was: laid back return home.
It had been snowing the days before, but nothing to worry about. Saturday came and it hand snowed during the night, the city looked lovely. But now, it was nice and clear. Shouldn't be a problem, wouldn't it?
We had lunch across the Potomac…and I just began getting these fun messages from AA:
Not good.
at reagan national
So my friends dropped me at DCA, and I went to AA's check in.
I don't get why DCA still has this method in which you check in and then you have to drag your bag all the way to the TSA scanners before you go down to the security filters.
The actual TSA queue for people wasn't full (it was a Saturday) and I passed it fairly quickly. The central hall was now airside, it is one of my favourite airport architechture in the world:
As told…skies were nice
Huge delay…I was to depart by the time I was supposed to arrive to JFK. Now it seemed like I would have to run at JFK. Bummer. Well… I guess I have no other choice than to spend time at the Admirals Club.
It was…fine
Views were the best part of it.
One last Dr Pepper for me
The food offering was basically, junk food.
The least bad I could find.
As the theoretical boarding time approached, I headed to my gate.
Boarding (?)
We were set to depart from the new concourse. It felt less crowded than the other concourses
No sight of our little junglejet…
Well…surprise surprise, another delay and gate change! At least the plane was about to make it
But eventually we made it…I just kept fearing that I wouldn't make it to Madrid that day.
boarding
We had to queue on the jetbridge, where it was freezing (I had sent my coat within my bag, belowdecks)
As with the previous flight, the Embraer's interior was more than suitable for our hop to NY. Legroom in my row was unbeatable.
enroute to jfk
lights were off, and we rushed to JFK!
I saw this sign and though, yes, I can tell…you screwed my fun afternoon at JFK
But this was part 2 of the message:
We took off towards the north, which allowed for cool sights of DC again.
The flight was totally uneventful. The highlight was…seeing Atlantic City
In no time, NY was in sight
We taxied quickly and once we docked on our gate…i had to RUN!
To be continued…

Conclusion
A short hop between DC and JFK, that was supposed to be a nice sightseeing start to a laidback flight back to Spain. Well, that didn't happen. I was already crossed at AA for the mess (and not offering any alternatives either). The flight itself was uneventful. My seat was great, though.
Stay tuned for the last episode for the last leg of my trip.
Saludos!

AA is the worst of the big US3 at handling and communicating delays. You’re lucky you had push notifications of the delay at least. I had a 9h delay recently and not a single email, text, or notification….i just happened to see the flight was delayed when looking at something in the app and then validated on FR24.
I saw this sign and though, yes, I can tell
« not Sorry » that’s perfect! Basically AA in an nutshell
Man stressful connections with AA both on outbound and inbound flights…not good!
