Hola amigos:
This is the second part of my Spring Break trip from DC to Cancún. Here's the complete trip:
Taking from our previous episode, our plane left us at Concourse A, basically besides our next flight to CUN. But we still had time to spare.
Back then, Terminal 1 had recently inaugurated two new works: an extension to Concourse A (which allowed international flights to arrive to T1 without using T4) and a connector between Concourse A and B (which made both concourses at T1 reachable airside)…I went on to peak at the latter
I think this is an important addition at least gives you more space to walk around….because Concourse A felt quite cramped and boring.
While we waited for our next flight we had a couple of overpriced beers and then it was time to board the next flight.
Boarding took place in the regular WN fashion, through letters and numbers. I had my passport and documents checked again as this was an international flight…and then I was in.
We taxied to RWY 28R and then turned towards Miami.
This was the best part of the flight for me. Totally unexpected, and was a gorgeous tour over Miami and its metro area.
As soon as you take off westward from FLL you fly over one of SoFL's most important highways, I 95 …you can spot Ft Lauderdale's downtown in the distance.
We followed I 595 for some time till we turned south when we were almost over Weston (bia/zuela)
We bordered the Glades until we flew over Opa-Locka…MIA was in view.
Then a perfect view over MIA and environs
Then we passed over Coral Gables and West Miami and eventually Dadeland. I had spent my Xmas and newyears vacations over there so I was quite excited to fly over these parts of town.
Then Miami Executive Airport came to view
And then the zoo…I loved going there as a child
Then came Homestead with its airbase and racetrack.
And then the Everglades gave way to the Caribbean.
I then turned to my IFE and then I was handed a generous glass of appple juice
The colour of the sea is just mesmerising
The flight passed by quite quickly… and sadly the sunny clear skies were now done. Not good news for us who were looking for a little bit of sun to scape from the cold weather up in DC
We touched down in RWY 12 L and taxied (quite quickly) to the new(ish) Terminal 4
All in all, great sightseeing, a nice glass of apple juice, short flight done right.
Entering Mexico was a breeze, the officer wasn't too interested in asking me questions. Everyone got their bag in no time and off we went to be picked up by the tour organiser who took us to our hotel.
Another solid flight by WN. I particularly like this airline for short flights, it offers you all that the competition does not (well maybe that's not the case with B6 and DL sometimes).
FLL was quite a bore, but the transit wasn't too long. Wouldn't advise for long transits.
CUN was okay.
Thanks for reading, saludos!
