In February, I used my ANA mileage to redeem a ticket from Munich to Hong Kong which included a layover in Tokyo. This is a new experience to me as I haven't flown any of the B787 series yet.

At the beginning, let me give you some basic information about ANA's B787-9 fleet. ANA ordered a total of 44 B787-9 and there are 3 different versions, of which 22 planes were delivered as of May 2017.
Version 1: Domestic version (国内線仕様), 395 seats (F18 Y377) with RR Trent1000A2 engine. There are only two planes for this version.

The inauguration flight for ANA long range international version dated back to 5th May 2015. beginning service on the Tokyo Haneda-Munich route. The first long range international version is JA836A. As of today, there are 11 planes delivered with this version.
On the day of flight, I finished my work at 15:30pm, went home to get my luggage and headed to the airport. It was almost 18:00pm when I arrived.
The Lufthansa A350 poster at the entrance of terminal 2.
The ANA check-in counter was located on the first floor. The entire check-in area was nearly empty and I swiftly had my luggage checked. The boarding pass for both flights were handed over to me.

I went upstairs to get some money from the ATM and headed to the security check. There were only a few people and I was through in no time. The departure gate for my flight was H38, so I took the escalator and reached the immigration counters. The queues here were a bit longer than expected and took me 20 minutes to get through. Then I walked to my gate to check out my aircraft. As I already did a little research in the morning and found out that JA839A would be operating the flight tonight.

The flight was also code share with Lufthansa

Then I went to buy some souvenir for my friends and back to the gate again at 20:30pm
At 20:45, there was an announcement informing that boarding will be commenced at 20:55pm. It turned out that the boarding was started precisely on time. ANA theme song "Another Sky" was played during boarding. My seat was 24A which is the second row from the emergency exit. Pillow and blanket were placed on each seat in advance. Seat pitch is 34 inch which was very comfortable for me. During online check in, I found that the flight would be very full. As far as I can observed, over 90% passengers were Japanese.

At 21:25pm, which was the scheduled departure time an announcement was made from cockpit that due to the late inbound for other connection flight, departure will be delayed 20 minutes to wait for passengers. New departure time 21:45pm. Soon, an FA distributed the candy and apologized for the delay.
At 21:45pm, cabin doors were closed and after 5 minutes push back was started. The taxi distance was short and we took off at 22:02pm from RWY26L. Seat belt sign was turned off 10 minutes after take off. Then the cabin light was switched to a another color. It was very nice that they will remind passenger to check the seat belt right before take off.
At 22:18pm, I started watching a Japanese film called Honnoji Hotel.
At 22:26pm, wet towel and bottle water were given.
15 minutes later snacks were distributed.
I took the Sapporo beer as the pre-dinner drink (サッポロ生ビール黒ラベル)
Dinner was served at 23:26pm. I took the Miso-grilled chicken thigh (鶏もも肉の味噌漬け焼き) and the ANA signature drink Kaoru Kabosu for the drink.

They came again to retrieve the tray. Meanwhile, the flight attendant was also asking if I would like to have another drink. I think this was a good time for a cup of coffee.
At this moment, we were flying over Russia airspace, just passed through Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania Latvia and Estonia.

As I returned to my seat, all the windows were dimmed completely as it was getting brighter and brighter outside. I started watching the second Japanese movie of the flight but fell asleep after 20 minutes.
I slept only for an hour and then continued with the movie. After I finished the movie, I fell asleep again at 4:15am.
I slept for another one and a half hour and when I woke up, the cabin light was already switched on and I can observe the cloud out of the window. Then I tried to fill in the immigration form for entering Japan
Heading to the east coast of Russia.
At 5:58 wet towel was distributed again and the breakfast was served at 6:14am. I chose the Scrambled eggs benedict style (スクランブルエッグベネディクト風).
Having the breakfast, I watched a Japanese TV drama.
Leaving Russia into Sea of Japan.
Entering Japan from the northeast of Niigata.
Finally the Japan coastline was visible.

At 8:11am, the seatbelt sign was on again, as we were approaching Haneda airport. It was hard for me to take good photos due to the condensation on the window…
Landing on RWY23 at Japan time 15:28pm. The taxi time to the terminal was about 10 minutes and our plane parked at gate 108.
At parking position. The FA returned my logbook and soon we got off the plane.

Immigration was very smooth, just only one person queuing in front of me. I thought questions would be asked by the officers of the immigration and custom but they did not.
After exchanging some Japanese Yen, I took the Keikyu Line to Shinagawa and then the Yamanote Line to Osaki.
Arriving destination after a long trip.
Thanks for reading!
Thanks for this FR.
Great service again on a Japanese airline.
The only problem is the seat pitch and width which do make for a bad flight for a tall person even with a great crew and meals.
Thanks for your comment.
That's true. I really hope they can consider this point for their next generation seats.
