Welcome to the 2nd part of the report. This report covers the return flight from Hong Kong to Munich.
1st Part MUC to HKG: Here!
2nd Part HKG to MUC: You are Here!
I arrived at the airport at 20:45pm. In front of the checkin counter, there were already a lot of people. I queued in one counter for economy class, but shortly after that I found out that these counter were handling flight to Frankfurt. Munich Flight was on the opposite side. Luckily there was just a few people there and soon my colleague arrived. We then went through the security check and the immigration. My colleague took more time than me at the immigration.

My plane, D-AIHF Lübeck. This aircraft was delivered to Lufthansa in February 2004.
Boarding was started at 22:37pm. During the online checkin, I was able to find a vacancy at the first row of the second compartment. But the downside was that I can only have half of the window.
My seat, 44A. Pillow and blanket had been placed on the seat.
Cabin during boarding
Of course, the arm rest could not be raised for the bulkhead seat due to the presence of tray table.
Boarding was completed at 23:03pm and I thought we should be able to depart on time. Unfortunately at 23:33pm, there was an announcement informing that the timeslot for departing was given after 3 hours, that implied that we will have a minimum delay for 3 hours.
At 23:46pm, the cabin light was dimmed a little bit. The flight attendant then distributed drinks to the passengers and I got a glass of apple juice.
About 15 minutes later, I got a pack of snacks.
Throughout the time, I was checking the departure information with the HK airport app on my smart phone. It seemed that most of the flights departing for Europe were still on the ground.
At 1:28am, I started watching the movie, Ghost in the Shell.
At 1:58am, there was an update on our flight. Captain announced that about 40 minutes more to our departure.
At 2:18am, I got an orange juice.
Finally after the long waiting, our plane started pushback at 2:38am and eventually we took off from 07R at 3:00am. This time the safety video was conducted in Cantonese instead of Mandarin, so I believed that the outbound flight from Munich was a mistake only.
About twenty minutes after takeoff, the crew started to distributed wet towel, then followed by the menu.
Dinner was served at 3:58am. I chose the "Chicken" option. The meal come with a appetizer, "German Potato salad" and a dessert, "Opera Hazelnut Cake".
(Chicken Zurichoise and Linguini with Garden Vegetables)
At 4:20am I started watching the second movie, The Survival Family. 16 minutes later, the cabin light were switched off. According to the information showed on the screen, we still have 10 hours flight to Munich.
After I finished the movie, I went to visit the toilet at 6:22am.
Lavatories at the lower deck
The snack bar? Several drinks were placed next to the stairs so that passenger can serve themselves. I helped myself with an orange juice.
Back from the lavatory, I was soon fell asleep. After 4 hours of sleep I woke up again and we had already entered the Russia Airspace, east of Orenburg. I got a glass of sparkling water from the FA.
At 10:50am, I watched the third movie of the flight, Split.
At 11:57 cabin light was switched on and I grabbed a glass of water from the crew. Soon, wet towel was served again.
At that time, we were flying somewhere between Russia and Belarus. According to the flight map, we still have approximately two hours to Munich.
Breakfast was served at 12:40pm. I took the western style with a cup of coffee.
(Scrambled Egg with Spring Inion enhanced by Mornay Sauce, roasted Potato, Spinach and Chicken Chipolata)
Had a cup of coffee after the meal.
At 13:12pm, I went to the lavatory again.
Cabin view at the front section of economy class.
Flying north of Attersee in Austria.
Seatbelt sign was on at 13:33pm.
After 11Hours 13 minutes airborne, we touchdown on RWY26L at Munich time 8:13am in the morning. Thai International Airways was at its usual gate position.
Arrived at the parking position.
Thanks for reading!
Thanks for this FR.
No luck with the delays on this trip as the outbound flight to FRA got cancelled.
I suppose the delay of all flights was weather related.
Classic and basic service by LH, as usual. I wonder why no snacks are ever available on LH long flights.
What was the reason for the delay? How frustrating, it must’ve made a gruelling red eye even worse.
Thank you for your report.
A340 underfloor lavatory looks cool, and nice picture of this flight.
I guess this was due to the temporary restriction of flying over the China airspace. The weather was fine at that time.
