Hi Hi Helloo! and welcome back to my new flight report. It's been a long time after the Bangkok trip, now I had a chance to refresh myself again to one of tourist destination on Java Island which is Yogjakarta or Jogja. This flight was the first time ever for me to flight from BDO - Bandung Husein Sastranegara International Airport after the domestic 'jet' flights moved to KJT - Majalengka, Kertajati International Airport started  on 1st of July 2019.  Flights moved to KJT

KJT may remind you of Mirabel airport or Ciudad Real airport? Yeah I'm not blaming you  to think about that at all. So, KJT is located around 66 km/41 mi north-east of Bandung, to reach the airport you have to go there only through toll road of Purbaleunyi and Cipali around 2.5 to 3 hours driving or we can go there by national road but that not recommended because it will take a longer travel time and the road is more winding, due Bandung is located around 700 m /2296.59 ft. above sea level. The toll road of Cisumdawu that plan to connect Bandung and KJT is still on construction, I'm not sure when it will really be completed and ready to be opened.

Direction to KJT from Bandung

It is actually the second attempt from National Government (Ministry of Transportation) with Provincial Government as the airport actually managed and developed by BIJB as a province's owned enterprises, Angkasa Pura 2 as the airport operator, and also the airlines. After long discussion they've made the decision, that the domestic flights from and to BDO that operated by jet aircraft (Boeing 737 and Airbus A320) need to move their flight to KJT. While, BDO will still served international flight and also domestic flight operated by propeller aircraft.

I actually don't really know about how KJT situation after this second attempt. But there is only report by my fellow friends here on the first attempt on bringing KJT to life last year.

BDO Terminal VS. KJT Terminal

Okay, so for this short hop between BDO-JOG there used to be operated double daily by JT - Lion Air's Boeing 737-800 and IW - Wings Air's ATR72. But now since JT didn't operated any flight from BDO, the route itself transferred make the BDO-JOG operated double daily flight with IW and also QG - Citilink Indonesia entered the competition as a new player.

So, come join me on my flight from this 'private' propps terminal of BDO :D

At the Homey BDO Airport

I arrived at BDO Husein Sastranegara International Airport with my lil sister around 11 am. The airport wasn't crowded and packed at all. The Ground staff also rarely to be seen.  PTN company that  now handled ground staff for  IW and XN next to each other at the Check-in desk 13 and 14.

As usual, we had to go through the security at the second floor, Then, we went to the boarding gates area that rather empty with not many passengers around.  As my lil sister and I estimate that less than 200 people on the boarding gates.

My flight would be departed from Gate 5, at that time it was still used by Xpress Air (XN) for PDG flight. My Boarding Pass.

While waiting for our flight I went to the additional food court area on the rooftop that there is no life existance other than the smoking area.

BDO wasn't design to be a huge airport but you know what since the new domestic terminal was build to cope with the increasing air travel the ex-Mayor of Bandung Ridwan Kamil contribute his architectural skills to design a nicer interior and ambiance  compared to the old design that proposed by the airport operator Agkasa Pura 2. There are some stickers about Bandung as a decoration.

Aircraft movement

While waiting for my plane to arrive, I stayed at the Starbucks first and also have a lunch before we sat to the nearest gate 5. OFC to board first

The flight IW1812

Time to board! As usual, we have to walk to the aircraft. As you can see there is three ATR72 IW, IN, and QG, also at that time there was a Boeing 737-400 and Hercules 130 of Indonesian Air Force, and Boeing 737-800 of OD.

Boarding still in progress. I was made the check-in online to pick my spot which is 17A and 17C for my lil sister. The reason was of course to secure the seat that not so far from the door and also don't forget about the smaller overhead racks. Oh yeah there was a girl really mad about there wasn't  a space left on for her luggage, like duh why you board the last one even though you've asked to seat on last row…

View from the window here. Once the last passenger had boarded the aircraft, the door was shut and our plane started to make its way to the active runway the crew look like they're in rush to catching up with the next departure from JOG to SUB since as I can observe from FR24 the flight was notorious for their delay. The safety demo was performed by the cabin crew during the taxi before entered the runway.

Some aircraft in the apron, taxi, backtrack, and take off!

Climbed out with the view of northern part of Bandung, the Gedung Sate - Governor of Jawa Barat offices, the construction of High Speed Rail train depot, and clear blue sky after that.

A cabin view of our flight to JOG. During the flight the cabin was very quiet and I guess majority of pax took this opportunity to take a nap. There were no service onboard, you can bought a mineral bottle I believe. The PSU of ATR always looks so modern on propps aircraft.

Check out the contents of the seat pocket after the seat belt sign was off, I grab everything inside the seat back pocket which is only: safety card, and invocation card. There was no inflight magazine of Wings Air

Never remember that the seat pitch was okay.

Janti Flyover was seen. So it will be really close to our landing time

Ready to disembark and welcome to Jogja!

photo 20190705_151806photo 20190705_151925

The arrival area was a short walk only, there was a two special liveries: QG's Floral Livery their first Livery when they're first commenced on 2001 and also QZ's Love Lombok Livery as a support post-earthquake and as a form of promotion in making Lombok as their new hub. Garuda just landed.

photo 20190705_151942photo 20190705_152127photo 20190705_152154

The apron movement was pretty chaotic since people that walk to the arrival area from several flights that arrived at the same time, and also people that walk to the aircraft for their departure.

photo 20190705_152022photo 20190705_152200

The baggage reclaim area was pretty crowded from Denpasar (Bali), Jakarta Halim, Surabaya, and Bandung flight. The wall decoration was amazing, but just kinda dizzy with advertising hang above it.

photo 20190705_152233

The plane icon using old Wings Air era when they're still flying with MD-80's. The baggage  took forever to be delivered. The CCTV aired to make sure that no one took or steal something from your baggage.

On the way to the city thru Janti Flyover to avoid traffic around Ambarukmo Plaza, etc.

Conclusion

Moving out flight from BDO to KJT of course it is annoying for most of the residents of Bandung and surrounding areas who have been very comfortable with the existence of BDO for the past decade. BDO seems still gonna be alive with the existence of several flight that served by ATR and also international flight, I believe resident of Bandung and surrounding area will chose Jakarta (HLP/CGK) instead over KJT for amenities and other reason. As not so big fans for propps aircraft it turns out that flights from Bandung to Jogja with ATR 72 are not too bad.
